What is the hope for Gordon Beckham among sox fans?

What is the Ceiling and the floor?

I think he is Edgar Renteria on the high end

From what all the Sox fans have told me he's already a hall of famer in my book...

If you actually think he'll win MVP/MVPs then I guess he's pretty much untouchable.

I thought the scouts projected him a little lower than that.

Scouts would be surprised at what he's already done. He seems like someone that scouts love to underestimate and Sox fans love to overlove. STATUE!!!

Thats true. I found a scouting report from that draft that had him as "Khalil Greene with less power"

Certainly better than that.

I thought I just heard Boers say he wouldn't trade Beckham for Adrian Gonzalez. And he calls the callers baseball retarded....

Author:  Keyser Soze [ Mon Mar 01, 2010 3:21 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Gordon Beckham expectations

He said the reason why he wouldn't make that trade is because he doesn't 'trust' Gonzalez. He's afraid that after he signs his big contract his power will mysteriously disappear.

Listening is a skill.

The SCORE's own Joe Cowley, also with the Sun-Times, wrote in his White Sox notebook this morning "Don't Believe the Hype". Cowley wrote this morning that a source last month said that Gordon Beckham might be included in a package to get Adrian Gonzalez, but "that's not an option." Besides, do you like the idea of Jayson "Get him a better number than #5" Nix and/or Brent "I can't hit my weight" Lillibridge taking over second base? I rest my case.

Here are my expectations for Beckham:

.290-.300 career hitter. May have a big year here and there, and top out at .320.
Homers: In the 20's every year, may have a couple 30-hr seasons
Extra base hits: In the 60's every year, probably close to 70.
Runs and RBI's: 90-110 every year.
Solid defense at 2B. Above average.
Multiple All-Star appearances.
Team leader type, possible captain.
If he does all this for 15 years, Hall of Fame.

So yeah, I wouldn't trade him.

Kinda hope the White Sox deal Beckham and to a team that'll put him back at short. He wants to play shortstop.

If (i) the White Sox rotation turns out to be as stellar as they are projected to be and (ii) the White Sox bullpen isn't crap and (ii) Rios and Quentin have bounce back seasons...deal Beckham for Gonzalez and go for a 2nd World Series win in 5 years--and then the White Sox can remove the 2005 World Series Champs signage and replace it with 2010 World Series Champs.

Why wouldn't he agree with those numbers? He's very capable of doing this as long as he doesn't get hurt. I think some Sox fans don't understand what we have with this guy. And if Cubs fans are talking smack, it's out of jealousy.

Im starting to lose my fucking mind here. Im not a White Sox hater. But Im starting to become a hater of everyone that says they have one of the best roatations in baseball. Where is everyone getting their information from?

Peavy was only around for a month so I wont count him too much. He is a great pitcher but he has to be healthy this year. He hasnt pitched over 200 innings in the past two years and has only done it 3 times over an eight year span. Buehrle is 6 games over .500 for the last 4 years(WOW thats one game better than Jason Marquis) What the fuck is durablitity going to do for you if it doesnt provide you with wins? Danks and Floyd combined to go an outstanding 2 games over .500 last year with a combined 3.915 ERA. I can't take this meatball shit anymore, when the first spring training game hasnt been played yet.

Stop with the if Calos Quentin bounces back shit, because I could say the same shit about Geo Soto and Soriano(who has a hell of alot more of a track record then Q's one year)

Enough already you all are making yourself look like the Cub Fans that I despise.

And Soto is very well able to put up the best numbers ever for a catcher, as long as he doesnt get hurt. Fuck your jealousy shit. Im getting annoyed with you already and it's your second post. Give the guy at least a full year in the majors and than you can begin to wrap your lips around his shaft.

White Sox 2009 rotation posted the 2nd best ERA in the AL in 2009...and now they've added Peavy.

Peavy is a guy that can't stay healthy... Ok now what? Where are you going to score all those runs? Beckham? Oh thats right, if Rios and Quentin and Juan Pierre and Alexi all come back to where you think they should be.

Enjoy another year of Soriano running after the ball in left. 5 more years at $18 million. Worth every penny.

re: hoping for bounce-back season from rios/quentin/ramirez: absolutely. Those guys crap out and the White Sox finish in 3rd in the AL Central.

Crazy that the White Sox didn't bring Thome back. Not sure who made that decision, but it seems ridiculous at this point.

take away the emotional element, and your posts on this are quality. Image
i don't think you're saying anything that different on this topic than white sox fans are, you're just pissing on the white sox parade a little by pointing out the offensive uncertainty--which white sox fans are fully aware of and why they wanted thome back or damon signed or maybe willing to deal a franchise player for a chance to win now.

I agree that Kenny Williams won't hesitate to deal Beckham if the White Sox are positioned to make the post-season and there's an impact-now player they can get in return to win now.
