Drastic Times call for Drastic measures.

Really wanted to call in to Bernstein and tell him to put away the VORP numbers for a second, because the first 12 games of the years the Cubs had lead in every one of them and now they have a 20+ ERA in the 8th inning.

I applaude Lou for the "out of the Box" move, especially so early, but I hope this semi temp

Check your facts. Z is the top paid fork lift driver but the least productive. If you can't cut him than you have to find other ways to justify his pay. Keeping him in the bullpen when you have 5 solid starting pitchers(assuming Lilly comes back being Lilly like) makes sense. You need an 8th inning guy and this might just light the fire in your pen, and under Z. I don't see for one second how this hurts.

So if you're a bad starter, you become a productive set up man?Convoluted logic

not necessarily, but you never know, he may do a great job down there. he has dominating stuff, and maybe it clicks with him and does well. i just dont think it is that appalling that he goes to the pen and helps settle things down a bit. they need help, and he is the best fit to accomplish the job for now.

Dumbass. You just described Carlos Marmol, and many other top relievers / closers. Do you realize most start as bad or mediocre starters, get moved to the bullpen, and suddenly become stars?

Carlos Marmol = a star= 5 years 26 saves  immessedup17= dipshit

It's actually been pretty tame so far this season... and by the way things look, I don't think it will get any worse being that both teams are going to probably remain shitty...

If Peavy has 2 more outings like this one tonight will Steve Stone start quoting the remaining dollars on Peavy's deal each time he says his name?

$15 Mill Base in 2011
$17 Mill Base in 2012
$22 Mill Base in 2013 ( $25,000 Bonus if he gets 3rd place in Cy Young voting, lol)

Hey, that's $54 million!

That is, when he actually found the time to put the ball somewhere near the stikezone.

Peavy said he made some mechanical changes and is going back to how he threw while in SD. His velocity was up in his last outing hopefully he can build off that. I still think he may be tipping his pitches.

Your reading comprehension is quite low. Marmol is a 'top reliever / productive set-up man' according to most in baseball. You did not limit this to closers or save numbers only. You said productive set-up man. I gave you a specific example of a bad starter who turned into a productive set-up man, and you call me the dipshit? Funny thing was, I didn't even call him a 'star.' I just said many star relievers in general were previously poor starters.

Mariano Rivera was a starter in the minors, even started 10 games for the Yankees his first year.

On B&B the other day, Stone was asked about Carlos Quinten (sp?) and the fact that in spring training he indicated that he was a changed person and not wouns do tight..or whatever...and B&B pointed out the fact that just 3 weeks into the season he is back to his old ways...yadda yadda... Stone proceeds then to answer the question somehow someway by talking for almost 3 mintes about the Cubs having Carlos Zambrano in the bullpen, etc... NEVER once addressing the question he was asked. What an ASSHOLE. I wish B&B would hold him more accountable to answer their questions.
