When the White Sox pay their first visit to the new Target Field tomorrow in Minneapolis to face the A.L. Central-leading Twins, a certain Ranger will be behind the mike. The one & only Chris Rongey will be pinch hitting for Darrin Jackson alongside Ed Farmer tomorrow night & Wednesday afternoon on 670 The SCORE & the TOYOTA Chicago White Sox Radio Network as D.J. attends to a family matter. Want more? Frank Thomas will be sitting in for Steve Stone next weekend in the TV booth when the Sox face the Royals in Kansas City due to Stone's vacation. Frank & the guy who nicknamed him "The Big Hurt", Ken Harrelson, will work the games at Kauffman Stadium Friday & Sunday on Comcast SportsNet and Saturday night on WGN's CW9 & WGN America, DIRECTV 307. |

I thought that they were going to be standing behind former Pirate and White Sock, Mike Lavalliere. |

Is there some kind of beef between Frank and Melton? They don't appear too friendly toward each other on the postgame show. It seems like they address Our Chuck but ignore each other. |

Stone taking a vacation during the season? That is not normal is it? Sounds weird to me. |

When Steve was on the radio side that one season with Ed, he also had a week off during the season. That also explained how Eric Collins, now the part time PBP of the Los Angeles Dodgers on FOX Sports' Prime Ticket, worked with Farmer for a weekend in St. Petersburg, FL for a White Sox series vs. the Rays... |

Didn't Robin Ventura and Jack McDowell (before he pissed Hawk off) sit in for Stone last season? |

And maybe the greatest athlete in New Trier history, Mike Huff, too. |

It appeared as if even Ken Harrelson had some issues and I remember he missed a series down in Texas vs. the Rangers...I thought Robin, "Black Jack" and Mike Huff all sat in for Harrelson on the TV broadcasts... |

Ahh...Now you are talking, while he was a great one, a few better than him Andy Fisher - F- Stanford Hoops (Played for a Dr Tom Davis, back in the day) This guy was awesome! Matt Lottich- G Stanford GREAT High School all around athlete, plays baseball as well at Stanford Johnny Castino - Twins 2B Clay and Bruce Mathews- Mike Pyle - Bears and my fave! PETE BURNSIDE! Think he played in MLB in the 50's, but he was the pitching coach when I was there and could pitch the 'Twice Around", which is he went through he normal pitching motion but did not release the ball, until his arm came around his back then through the ball over his back for a strike.! |

That was kind of an inside joke with myself. I had some business dealings with Pyle and he likes to call himself the greatest New Trier athlete in history. I'd bring up Huff just to be a ballbuster. Lottich was good but Huff is from my time. Pyle might really have been the best. I think he was a state champ in wrestling and the discus and shot put, beside his football career. Fuckin' Huff. Hit about .800 vs. Evanston, whipped our ass as a QB, and won the Supersectional game at McGaw. Dennis Kwiecinski got booted from that game for tackling Huff. We joked that he never tackled him in a damn football game. I guess Pyle is the man. But maybe Frank Kutschke has something to say about it! |

Those two games that year might have been the best football games I've ever seen at any level. Of course, the older guys like to talk about the '73 game that New Trier won 3-0. The first game that ended 26-25, Billy Dawson was all over the field, but they couldn't really stop Nolan. The second one. What a fuckin' heartbreaker! Early in that game Johnny Meyer scored a touchdown that got called back on a holding penalty. He was about 6'9" and it was a perfectly designed play with Brady just lofting it to the corner over everyone else. Alas. And Houghtlin? I had heard so much about how great that fucker was and all he did was miss all day until the game winner. I've still got nightmares about it. |

Joe Orr? Did Houghtlin win a Rose Bowl for Iowa? I know he had a big kick to win a bowl game, dont remember if it was Rose Bowl? And Good Dolphin, all my Evanston guys say the same thing, 2 of the very best games they ever saw, HS, College or Pro. Honestly, 2 amazing games. First one Double OT when a guy (Joe Orr0 whose team lost twice tells you they are 2 of the best games ever, loaded wioth College players. Billy Dawson go to Michigan? |

I know Houghtlin was good at Iowa. You might be right about a big kick. Dawson did go to Michigan. Didn't hear much about him after that though. I know Kutschke had a good career at Holy Cross. |

Remember a Mark Locke? the guy should have been the first Brandon Jacobs? Now Dead from what I heard. Got a 1 year deal from Nebraska, couldnt even stay there, went to Northen, kicked out. Spent summers hooping with Lou and Steve Wool, Francois Gene Paul, Jed Curtis, Kevin Peterson Peterson, drafted 7th round by the Cowboys, blows out a knew, injury settlement for $200K. |

Houghtlin, was an all state kicker, nationally recruited, huge weapon in High School having a guy that can make 50+ yard FG's Still wonder why Gene "Chick" Chickowski had him playing D Back!!!!!!! |

Lou Wool- tough as nails white boy. Everette Stephens' sidekick. Kevin Peterson played at Northwestern. I didn't know he was drafted. Those guys are a little younger than I am. I know Kevin's brother Scott better. I think Jed Curtis might be teaching at ETHS. |

Moved Beckham down to #8. Not sure why they didn't skip Freddy and go with Danks and Buehrle on normal rest. Could be yet another managing mistake by Ozzie. |
