Serious question: If the Marlins are willing to trade to obtain Ozzie, can the Sox make them take Rios or Peavy rather than ask for a player?

They would probably have to send something back to the Sox in return, but certainly the Sox could request a Guillen and Peavy for Minor leaguer X....deal. They player received could be a bum with no hope of making the majors, but I think the Sox would have to get something in return. But I highly doubt the Marlins want Ozzie THAT bad. I wouldn't be shocked if Ozzie were to go to Reinsdorf and say that he felt it was time for either him or Kenny Williams to go, that Reinsdorf might grant Guillen a release from his contract. As long as the release was a mutual agreement to void the contract, thereby leaving Reinsdorf free of any finaccial obligations to Guillen for the money he would have been paid in 2012. That wouldn't shock me.

No team would take a player or manager that the other team has all but said they want to get rid of....oh...wait?

It would certainly be a first, but they're opening the new stadium. It would be a splash, pending league approval.

It's very doubtful the Marlins would trade for him with only 1 year left on his contract unless they really want him badly. The time to make the trade was last offseason.

I disagree. The Marlins weren't offering Stanton or Morrison last year. This year, Morrison is a real option. Especially because the Miami Marlins are looking to make a major splash. See what I did there. They are counting on 14k in season tickets with the new stadium. This is the opportunity for the Sox to take advantage of a situation that isn't all baseball.

Stanton was never a possibility but supposedly the Sox asked for Morrison. Why would the Marlins trade for Ozzie now when they can just wait for the Sox to fire him then they can hire him without any compensation?

Logan Morrison has really fallen out of favor down in Miami with "Grandpa" Jack McKeon still filling out the lineup card for a few more days as nothing more than an interim stopgap down there. He wants compensation for being forced to spend 10 days with the Marlins' Triple "A" affiliate earlier this month.

If I'm not mistaken, when Lou Piniella became the Rays' manager many years ago, another OF in Randy Winn ended up going to Seattle as compensation to allow Piniella to fill out the lineup card when Tampa Bay's MLB team was still known as the Devil Rays. That was about a decade ago I do believe...
