Now that the Sox are back in the race, he is starting to become an impediment to the Sox success. He is statistically one of the worst hitters in the league right now. Even worse, it is rare to see him with a good at bat. I think the Sox give him a chance until Teahan gets back. If he is not better, let Vizquel take second with Teahan and Viciedo platooning at third.

You just answered your own question. There is nobody else to play 2nd right now. I'd much rather stick with Beckham than give Lillibridge any playing time.

Once Teahan gets back, I think you are right....Vizquel more or less becomes the everyday 2nd baseman.

It is crazy to think that the Sox are contenders in the division and yet Beckham is playing so poorly.

Offensively, yes. They started to turn things around when he got buried in the 9 hole. His defense has been solid all year though.

He was in the 9 hole quite a while before they started to really get things going. And besides, if he becomes a good glove guy with a poor bat then he is a HUGE disappointment.

They can get by with him doing so poorly if Konerko and Quentin keep up the power like they have been recently.

Rios needs to keep hitting too

As long as Beckham keeps making all the plays (he's pretty damn good at turning DP's) he stays in the lineup everyday. When Teahen returns he can spell Vizquel at 3B and Konerko at 1B. This team started playing A lot better when the infield defense improved. No reason to mess with that now.

And then he hit .223 in August and whiffed 24 times.

Adam Dunn considers that a good week.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Beckham benched for 4 or 5 days straight, clear his head, let him work on the side with Walker, and in the film room. Obviously, he's available to play if need be, but I'd be ok with giving Lillibridge and Vazquez a few games at 2B. Beckham just looks horrible at the plate.

Vazquez? Who the hell is he?  If General Manager Kenny Williams is smart, he calls his counterpart on the North side and inquires about Ryan Theriot, Jeff Baker or Mike Fontenot. There's nobody in the White Sox system right now worth calling up to send Beckham down to Charlotte. You know it. I know it. Joe Cowley knows it. Ozzie knows it too.

This sounds like it couldve been cut n pasted from a thread about Brian Anderson a few years back, just a different name in the title.

I believe he's 2-2 so far tonight with an RBI and run scored and it's only in the 4th.

If does this again next season, Sox might want to consider trading him to a hot weather franchise.

I think you have to let him play out the year. If I remember correctly, he started something like three hits in his first thirty at bats, so he might be prone to streakiness. Konerko does the same thing. To me, there would be little point in shutting him down now.

Dunn for Beckham. How do you like that trade now (similar to the Adrian Gonzalez for Beckham preseason talk)?

Dunn is a free agent though in 3 months. I doubt the Sox trade him for a rent-a-player.

Exactly. Dunn is a rent a player. You give up a mid level prospect or 2 and pick up the remaining salary. Anything more (I.E. Beckham, Hudson, etc) and Dunn isn't worth it at this point.

I don't think Beckham is going anywhere. And I don't think he's going to hit .210 for his career either. He'll be fine.

That being said, you can see that baseball is going through a sea change what with 30+ pitchers sporting ERAs less than 3 and all these no-hitters being pitched. The days of nine hole hitters with .850 OPS appear to be over.

If you're under 30 you probably don't remember the way the game used to be played, but it wasn't uncommon for a team to have a slick fielding middle infielder or a centerfielder with a batting average around .220. And they could live with that. I think you're going to see that again in the coming years. Hell, if we get back to a time when teams are hitting about 120 homers per season, I may even stop railing against stealing and sacrificing.

A streak is 30 at bats....this is the third month of the season.

If Kenny isn't going to sign a power lefty 1B type like Dunn or AGone, he's got some problems. Is his plan to try and sign Konerko with a hometown discount again? Ideally he would like a lefty 1B and DH next year. If he doesn't have the money to spend for either then he's screwed. He can either pay $18-25M for a quality bat (including maybe Fielder) or $10-15M for Konerko, Carlos Pena, or the like. I guess my point is, if Dunn is only a rent-a-player, then that's Kenny admitting he's got no money for any quality lefty bats next year.

OK, my assumption is that if you trade a top prospect for Dunn, you do it with the intention of signing him long term. Otherwise, it may be too high a price to pay for a 3 month rental. That's all.

Well, you do get the draft picks.

But what about a deal for Prince Fielder?

Yeah, I was surprised to hear that the Brewers are not pursuing a contract with Fielder at this time. They may not have the money.

Coming from the same guy who said to me, "I know a fuck of a lot more about baseball than you do."

Feel free to start showing off that knowledge anytime now.
