Interesting. Not a big fan of Manny and his antics so I am glad this didn't come to fruition. I wonder who we would have had to give up in return - CQ and ??? |

Yea I had just started a new topic about this right after you posted. Well I guess we are left with what we have. I think that the Sox can make it to the playoffs and past the first round but I do not know if the team as currently composed can go really deep in the playoffs. We probably would have given up prospects. I don't think CQ would have been dealt for Manny. |

I am glad this did not happen as well. I don't think at this point in his career you really want to mess with having Manny around. Should be interesting to see if Kenny has anything left up his sleeve before the deadline. |

Why not? I would think the Dodgers would have wanted some power back. Scotty Pods isn't going to knock in the runs like CQ or Manny. Although with the ownership turmoil in Dodgerland maybe they would just take prospects to shed payroll. I hope some more info on this comes out as I am very intrigued by what they rejected. |

What - shock the world by getting a guy AFTER he stops juicing? Great. Billy Koch time. C'mon, Kenny - stop fucking around and give up the whole farm for Ichiro. Can't let a talent like that toil for such a piss-poor team. If Manny Ramirez is the answer, I certainly don't want to hear the question. |

Well according to Joe Cowley's twitter: "Just been told that KW is still working on a bat, but scrambling right now." http://twitter.com/cst_sox/statuses/20000845084 |

White Sox, Rays Made Failed Runs At Manny Ramirez By Tim Dierkes [July 31 at 11:15am CST] 11:15am: SI's Jon Heyman tweets that Manny appears amenable to going to the White Sox but the Dodgers want big prospects back. 11:06am: The Rays inquired on Manny a while back and it went nowhere, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. 10:28am: The White Sox made a failed run at Manny Ramirez, report Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Ramirez has over $7MM remaining on his contract, and Rosenthal tweets that the Sox wanted the Dodgers to pay all but $1MM and did not want to send any players to Los Angeles. This was apparently what Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times was referring to when he said GM Kenny Williams was trying to "shock the world" before yesterday's Edwin Jackson trade. Though the Sox were rejected, Manny makes for an interesting DH target for multiple teams. Ramirez is having a strong year statistically, but he was otherworldly after the '08 trade to the Dodgers. Obstacles abound: Manny has a full no-trade clause, he's on a rehab assignment for a calf strain, and as we mentioned he has over $7MM remaining on his contract (much of it deferred). The contract makes Ramirez an August trade candidate, if the Dodgers feel they can spare him. |

Ken_Rosenthal It's a halfcourt shot, but it's still in the air: Source says #WhiteSox intend to make one more run at Manny today. #Dodgers |

"The White Sox wanted the Dodgers to pay all but $1 million of the approximately $6.7 million remaining on Ramirez's contract and did not offer a player in return." Wow no wonder the Dodgers rejected the deal, it was Kenny pretty much asking the Dodgers to pay the Sox for taking Manny off their hands. I think for this deal to go down it's gonna take 2 AA-ball prospects and the Dodgers absorbing some salary. On a side note, I'm really surprised that the Twins still have not made a single move to improve one of their weaknesses- their starting rotation. I still want to see KW pursue a one out lefty bullpen guy, that way we don't have to use Thornton in that type of role because I don't trust Threets down the stretch. |

According to MLB trade rumors: "11:35pm: The Dodgers asked the White Sox for Dayan Viciedo in exchange for Ramirez, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com on Twitter. The Manny market is heating up, according to Yahoo's Tim Brown on Twitter. The Rays, White Sox and a mystery team are all involved. The Dodgers are considering dealing Manny, according to Brown, who explains that the Dodgers are not shopping him. The left fielder is said to be open to a trade." |

I'm that kind of Cubs fan that doesn't want the Sox to win a game - ever. That said, them getting Manny Ramirez would at first make me laugh but ultimately I wouldn't wish that fool infecting the clubhouse on the southside. Plus, I don't think I could stand any Manny/Teddy comparisons. |

So the deadline passes and Jackson is the only Sox move? That is disappointing. |

RFDC wrote: So the deadline passes and Jackson is the only Sox move? That is disappointing. Yes it is disappointing. Sox offered Flowers + E. Jackson for Dunn but Nats wanted Viciedo + E. Jackson for Dunn and KW said no. I would've done the Viciedo + E. Jackson deal because you have Brent Morel in the minors at 3rd. |

You still have the whole clear waivers first trading to look forward to. |

The waiver trade.... one of the most idiotic things every.. We'll you can't trade anymore, but you can if the guy gets cut and nobody worse than you wants him. WTF didn't MLB make the trade deadline mid-August when they expanded the number of playoff teams. You'd think with more teams in the running for a playoff spot, it would make things more interesting. |

If Kenny made the trade that means he would have traded Hudson, Viciedo and Holmberg for Dunn. That's craziness. |

The Dodgers will now be comprised of a healthy number former Sox/Cubs players from last season and/or this season - who they acquired the last two days, what is that 4 of 26 - approximately 1/7th of their team: Pods Dotel Lilly Theriot |
