It's now a done deal, White Sox fans. After rumors of relocating from their current radio home since 2006 to a third sports talk radio station that never really got off the ground, the Sox are staying right where they are at. Although the Sun-Times' Lewis Lazare wrote the byline in the paper this morning, the official announcement came at the end of today's "Mully & Hanley" morning show when White Sox V.P. of Marketing/Broadcasting Brooks Boyer & CBS Radio's Local Market Manager Rod Zimmerman, also the V.P. & General Manager of WBBM Newsradio 780, joined the guys in 670 The SCORE's 2 Prudential Plaza studios.

The Sox and WSCR have OFFICIALLY signed a 5 year extension that'll keep the Southsiders on the CBS-owned sports talker until the 2016 season. Financial terms weren't revealed, but the team's current radio team will continue to call the games. That means Sox fans will continue to hear Chris "The Ranger" Rongey host pregame shows 30 minutes before first pitch as well as postgame shows. It also means Ed Farmer & Darrin Jackson will continue to provide the descriptions along the Chicago White Sox Radio Network.

While that last part is a bit of a bummer in my opinion, it remains to be heard if WSCR will make a run at Owner/Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf's other team, the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls' current rights-free deal with The SCORE's direct competition, ESPN Radio 1000, has one more year remaining and is set to expire after the 2011-12 season.

This is disappointing news. When the Sox & their blue light special bargain basement announcers are on WSCR, I change the station.

me too. I'm sure their advertisers will love knowing their potential customers wont be listening because the team wont get different announcers.

Thats a White Sox Winner!!!
