If Stone will have a change of heart on back-loaded contracts since Dunn, AJ and Paulie all signed deferred money contracts? I say yes.

None of those contracts are for anyone named Soriano or Zambrano....and none of them are for 7 years. You are correct though, he will be fine with anything WhiteSox because that is where the paycheck comes from.

Please note that the only reason there are no-trade clauses involved are because AJ and Konerko are 10 and 5 guys.

It was a long time ago so forgive me for forgetting, but why did he part ways with the Cubs?

So that means you have to become the teams bitch to keep the job, he quit the cubs because he didn't like the way he was being treated and told how to do things with the cubs, but then ends up on the south side and is now willing to do so...pick a lane Steve. He has been critical of the cubs and other teams back loaded contracts, he has been on the score 3 times in the last week and hasn't said a word about these 3 contracts and the fact they are the dreaded and evil back-loaded types he hates, say what you believe in, by not doing so, he is proving others points that he just has a ax to grind, get over it.

I never liked him on the north side, he is overrated in all aspects of calling a game and his alleged baseball genius and now he is a hypocrite if he doesn't bitch about these contracts, that is my only point.

But I will say he got Dunn and PK for less then market value, good deals, AJ....I think they took the best catcher for what they wanted to pay for catcher.

I just find it amusing that so many Cub fans think that Stone underwent some huge metamorphosis when he went to work for the Sox. His genius became idiocy and his outspoken candor became kowtowing. Or is he really exactly the same douche he's always been but just working for a team they dislike?

Are you implying that his thoughts on the Cubs backloaded contracts is wrong or is this another one of those "He may be right but he shouldn't be allowed to say it" things?

Interesting premise, but I'm pretty sure "back-loaded" refers to long term escalating salaries, not deferring money.

I agree with the last sentence of that, I just think Stone is hyper criticial of the Cubs and others, but when the White Sox do the same exact thing, he has nothing to say. He is going to be positive about the product I understand and accept that, I just find it funny Stone ignores certain things because he doesn't want to rock his or the teams boat.

No, I am saying if you are going to rip every back loaded contract, then rip those your team just handed out.

I like the white sox, I like the team and love the Manager, I just find Stone as I always have, as a painfully overrated broadcaster who now has decided its OK to talk out both ends of his mouth.

Stone seemed less controversial to me when he was with the Cubs. Now he loves to talk about others teams that he doesn't broadcast for. Any of his comments regarding the Cubs are tainted because of his bad break up with the Cubs. But I am a Cubs fan. so I guess I'm biased.....

I know some on these boards don't like Hub. He was a complete a$$ when he did the Bears broadcast. I think he's pretty down to earth and thoughtful on the Score. I don't agree with everything he says, but he seems like an ok guy. He is pleasant with the callers and has an opinion on everything that is well reasoned.

I have a Hub story...

Buddy of mind owns a restaurant in Skokie, Hub came in, asked to be seated in a private area because he was a well know media guy. My friend sets him and his party up, they stay till a hour past closing, the bill comes and Hub wants the drinks taken off in trade for him giving the place a free plug next time he is on the air, my friend says, no, the guy leaves no tip....that folks, is a asshole.

Somehow I doubt that story surprises many around here. He has always came off as an asshole.

Hmm, too bad. He seemed like a douche on the Bears broadcasts. He comes off much better on the Score. But just one meatball's opinion....

We all have our biases. I don't hear the "WSOX" stuff that spmack is always railing about. In fact, the Score guys that are supposedly Sox fans do a much better job of hiding their allegiances than guys like Abbatacola or Spiegel or Hub ever have. And let's not even talk about Murph. Of course they got the first interview with Konerko. They're the Sox flagship. When Pat Burrell signs with the Cubs for four years and $40 million, I'm sure WGN will have him on first. Or at least have the chance to.

Anyway, the reason Stone wasn't rehired by the Cubs was because of his negative comments while he was working for them. That being the case, I find it a little silly to say his negative comments are prompted by the fact that he no longer works for the Cubs.

His ability to comment on other games has vanished as he cant watch most of the other games, due to his new job. So everything now is "I heard someone tell me" Thus the job of Baseball analyst should be vacated.

Second, the guy became an angry ex employee after being fired. Yes, he can tell me he wasnt fired, but the day they change the locks and dont give you a key, you are fired. Then he used every chance on the air at the Score to take shots at the Cubs. Hey, I take shots at the Sox and Sox fans, but I dont deny it all day with "Show where I said that", as if going to Kent St. made him some analytical genius that can speak in subliminal languages that only Steve Stone can comprehend.

And since when did Stone become outspoken during the games? During the games he sits in his corner and listens to stories about Yaz. He only talks smack when he is on the Score.

Stone was at his best when he took the year off from doing any games, watched every game he could and had great reports. He took plenty of shots at the Cubs then as well.

Did he do this? I thought he was doing a game once a week for ESPN the year after the Cubs gave him the boot?
