They don't need starting pitching and they probably don't have enough state taxes to afford Cliff Lee.

Yeah, I don't understand it when people say that they don't like the starting staff for the Sox. I heard it again when Mac said that they should move Sale to the rotation today. Even with a mediocre Jackson, you still have a decent enough 4th starter. Danks and Floyd work for me in the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively. Your 5th is going to be pretty shitty, but that problem isn't unique to the Sox... Even without Peavy I'm pretty stoked about this rotation next year. The Sale move would just be overkill.

Let the reports only mention Texas, Angels, and Yankees.

Then when the Cubs sign him, everyone will be shocked!

The way the Sox are shaped now, they need Sale in the bullpen. I also have more confidence in Jackson than I do Floyd to start the year. Floyd always seems to have an ERA over 5 thru mid-May, then realizes how to pitch without his head up his ass.

And don't forget about sweaty Freddy!

I agree that this team could use Sale in the pen, but I think to put a guy that can command as many pitches as he can with that kind of stuff in the bullpen is pretty shortsighted. If you make him a starter, you can move Danks if you want to. And that makes more sense than looking to move Floyd who is signed pretty cheap for a long time.

175 mil, 7 years for a guy that had a bad game in the World Series? Not likely
Pitchers can "bad things go happen" rather quickly.

When you are the favorite to win the World Series like the White Sox are why spend the money?

Yeah it is shortsighted, but I consider the window for winning anything to be at its best right now before Konerko's numbers start to diminish... Given that Sale is so young, I think that the move to starter can be put on hold for another year or so, or until the pen is replenished. And now that he's gotten around a little bit, he's not going to be as dominant the second time around, so maybe keeping him in the pen is a safer bet this year.

Sales is the closer when Jenks leaves.

The last thing Chicago needs is Cliff Lee's wife.

I remember Cooper saying during the season last year that he would make Sale a closer for his career. I trust Cooper when he is talking about pitching.

Well, I certainly wouldn't get into an argument with a major league pitching coach over mechanics or judging a guy's abilities. But I will argue with anyone about the value of closer relative to starting pitchers. Closing is a job a whole lot of guys can do. Pitch one clean inning and retire three batters who haven't seen you today. A lot of times with a two or three run cushion. Obviously, some guys don't have the mental makeup to close out a game, but I really don't think that's an excuse to have possibly your most effective pitcher covering 65 innings when he could be handling 200 instead.

I'm sure he took that into consideration.

I'm ok with putting Sale in the bullpen for a year but in the long term I want to see him as a starting pitcher. If you look at the top teams in the AL they all have dominating lefties at the top of their rotations. CC, Lee, Lester, Price, Liriano. Sale has the ability to matchup against all of them and I want to see him given the opportunity to max out his ability.
