I can't come to a conclusion if I think Sale would be better used this season as a starter or the closer, leaning towards saying they need him to close. I think Pena can step in and be the 5th starter until Peavy returns

If youre banking on Peavy returning and not bringing the suck this year, its going to be a long year for you.

I would consider peavy returning to pitch 100 innings and have an era in the mid 4's a success, at most he would be a marginal innings eater and at this point is behind denks, jackson buehrle and floyd, only big plus would be to leave pena in the bullpen and not have to looks for another arm

The only thing you can't do with Sale is move him around. If he is in the 'pen this year, thats fine. But then he stays in the 'pen until spring training 2012. Likewise if he is a starter this year, then he stays a starter until 2012.

He will NEVER sell this team.

1. He doesn't even make that much money (in his world)
2. What else would he do?

After you make your first $300 M, what else do you do? Buy more land, another office building, build more condos? I never did that stuff on the scale Jerry did, but it even bored me. It is a reaosn I admire Jerry, he went the right way. Then again, it mostly wasn't his money.

So you sell the team at age 75 and you have no other real hobby, what do you do? Fund Mike North schemes?

That is why he jumps into negotiations whenever he gets the chance. It makes him feel young again.

Peavy must have had a very good side session today because Kenny announced Chris Sale will start the season in the bullpen. This is very good news because I did not want to see Sale moved from the rotation to the bullpen during the season. I'm not sure if they are going to make him the closer right out of spring training but he should pitch himself into that role rather quickly.

With all of the off days in April, a 5th starter is not needed except maybe a couple of times. Sale in that role for April anyway would take away any consistancy in how he'd prepare if needed to relieve. Spot start Pena if you have to and leave Sale in the pen. its a no brainer. If Peavey comes back then great. Sale is a nice insurance policy if anyone goes down of the main four.

To me he'd be a better closer vs 5th starter this year.
Dominating bullpen > above average pitcher every 5-6 days.
