I can easily understand why the Sox wanted to replace jackson on TV with Steve Stone...Stone is perhaps the best in the business. The question is why keep jackson on radio?? I think the Sox believed that he would turn down the radio gig when offered the demotion and were surprised when he accepted it. But why they offered it (out of some sense of loyalty??) at all, is beyond comprehension. A city like Chicago ( even if it is for the Sux) should have better broadcasters than D.J. on the radio broadcast. |

while I might have agreed with you in the past, I have heard DJ do national games on Radio and TV and he is really good. It's Farmer who creates a terrible broadcast. It might be impossible to team someone up with him as long as he is the Play by Play guy driving the broadcast with inside jokes, extra dry sarcastic remarks that his partner isn't sure if he is joking or not. "Did you ever _____ when you ______ in the big leagues" that is the go to statement they use about once an again to each other bcause it seems it is the only common ground these 2 have. But once again, Ranger insists they are great friends and get along great......< bullshit> |

It is very clever. What he has done is taken the proper spelling of the team's name, S-O-X, and then replaced the "O", with a "U". Now it is "S-U-X", which is still very similar to the proper spelling, but also implies that the team sucks, or is not very good. It's truly brilliant comedy, really. And when he uses it again and again, it only gets funnier. |

And you are entitled to your opinion on the broadcasts themselves. However, I am telling you, with every fiber of my being, that they do get along VERY well and they actually like each other. I know them both pretty well and I can tell you this with absolute certainty. Actually, it's probably even the most comfortable that each of them, individually, has been working in the booth. I've talked to you a number of times in person and I've been pretty candid about quite a bit of stuff. I wouldn't lie to you. Quit being so damned cynical! |

LOL OK, I kinda believe you, but the fact is perception is reality, especially in that business. I don't even think the biggest Sox fans on here, Frank C, etc see this as a good working team on the radio? PLUS, your own station often mentions this as a rocky relationship? Playing sound clips of the two of them having their typical uncomfortable conversation? I know you can relate to this analogy. They sound like a couple on a bad first date. |

bigfan wrote: I don't even think the biggest Sox fans on here, Frank C, etc see this as a good working team on the radio? Exactly. They can be the absolute best buddies off the air, but its a pretty bad broadcast most of the time. Its so bad its funny. DJ has actually gotten a lot better, and as bigfan mentioned when he does national games he is quite good. Farmer as the play by play guy is awful. |

If it is true it is even more damning that they are a horrilbe broadcast team with no chemistry. I'm a big Sox guy and they turn me away from listening to games on the radio. The same was true for Farmer and Singleton. Alternatively Rooney attracted me to listening to the radio. |

Farmer and DJ are a perfectly acceptable broadcast. And Steve Stone is vastly overrated. [/thread] |
