team's extra inning 7-6 loss to the Royals on Tuesday.
But he felt even worse after the game.
Dunn had Sox head trainer Herm Schneider drive him to a Kansas City emergency room after the game and ended up having an emergency appendectomy.
He is out for up to five days, including Thursday's home opener at U.S. Cellular Field.
Dunn is hitting .286 in four games with the White Sox, with a .474 on base percentage and a .571 slugging percentage.
The Sox wrap up their series in Kansas City Wednesday afternoon with a 2-2 record to start the season. The White Sox confirm Dunn will travel home with the team Wednesday night.

Mercy.

DH Quentin and play Milledge? I bet that bum Teahan will see some time as well.

At least it didn't burst. Sounds like he'll avoid a trip to the DL

I agree with DHing Quentin and playing Milledge, but you know Ozzie will play the lefty-righty matchups, which means a whole lot of Teahanbagging.

That stinks.

Out for 5 days? I wonder what the difference is with what happened to him and Matt Holliday? They said Holliday could be out for 2-6 weeks.

My gf </fealz> is a surgical tech and she says that Dunn's probably was done laparoscopically, which is like a 1" incision. My guess is Holliday had to be opened up.

That makes sense. Well if he is only out for 5 days after having to have surgery they should consider themselves very lucky.

Didn't Holliday tell STL not to put him on the DL because he feels he can come back much sooner?

He could have, I haven't kept up with the story. I just remember reading the original story saying possibly 2-6 weeks.

Baseball should probably have like an 8 day DL. 1 guy max on it at a time.

I'll give you one 8 day DL if you can that ridiculous DH.

No one wants to watch pitchers hit...it's the natural evolution of the game. Plus it's been around for 40 ish years...deal with it.

The DH will never go away because its kept guys like Frank Thomas, Jim Thome, David Ortiz, etc around for a lot longer than they would have been otherwise. Those guys are money makers and fan favorites.

It's just really gay that's all.
OOh! I can't hit! So I won't!

Yeah, keeping guys in the game who can't play anymore is a great idea!

Jim Thome and his probably 300+ HRs as a DH would disagree with you wholeheartedly.

I don't mind the DH, I just wish they would make it the same in both leagues. Either both have the DH or both do not have it.

Whatever. Just don't tell me how much better the league is when you take out the weakest hitter and substitute a guy who can't do anything BUT hit and compare the stats apples to apples.

I'm not against eliminating guys who can't play baseball.

I just find the whole strategy of the National League game much better. There is nothing better than a 15+ inning National League game where matchups and benches become so important to manage. In the American League, you just run the pitcher out there inning after inning until he's out of gas, then you bring in your next pitcher. You don't have to worry about Pinch-Hitting for him or managing your bench at all.

if it were my decision i would abolish the dh..teams will put up with a shitty first baseman if he can produce. i just hate having one league with different rules..either the nl needs to add dh or the al remove them , both leagues need to be on same page typical selig to sit on his hands and do nothing.

I'm not a big fan of Selig, but this statement is kind of stupid, in my opinion. Selig has done great things with the league. And inaction isn't exactly what I think of with this guy. Sometimes too much action (such as the "resolution" to the all star tie)

ehh the all star thing was just retarded..selig is an awful commish, not a smart man.. he did nothing for over a decade to address the peds and the record books meaning little anymore..and the nfl added the wildcard first i believe selig only copied it..what do you like about the man? what has he done for the game? in a positive light

Reallignment
Interleague Play
He did address the PED's.
Wild Card
Revenue Sharing (abuse of which is not really his fault but it could be addressed IMHO)
Suspended fellow owner Schott

Not bad considering we're talking about changes to a 150 year old game. Vincent didn't do much but be an admin. Selig's time saw tremendous growth in fandom and revenue.

I want the DH rule abolished but they have to do it at all levels. My nephew is pitching in a high school game tonight and the idiot coach will DH for him even though he's one of the better hitters on the team.

If they abolish the DH on all levels (high school, college, minors) and make these kids hit their whole lives they will be better when they reach the majors and may not be the automatic outs they are now. Making a guy face major league pitching when he hasn't swung a bat in over 10 years is not fair and makes for awful at bats.

i agree..and it prevents pitchers throwing at guys if they have to dig in at the plate...selig moved the brewers to nl central to increase the chance at a world series it was a selfish and greedy move..he addressed peds like ronald regan addressed crack cocaine and aids. what did selig do when an umpire cost a kid a perfect game last year(the last play of the game) nothing ..he is good at doing nothing it has come with practice

What's wrong with specialization of talents in sports? In general, it makes things better and not worse. It's not like anyone cares that catchers never play in the field or that position players don't pitch. We might as well just let all the players play every position like it was 100 years ago.

No thanks. Give me a great matchup between a great hitter who can't play the field well vs. a pitcher who can't hit rather than watching an inept pitcher pray that he makes contact to advance a runner.

Ya lost me at the Ronald Regan and AIDS and Crack thing. What the devil did it mean?

On the perfect game... what should he have done? Changed on on field ruling when there was no mechanism to do so? You don't just change things Post De Facto. It's also terrible precident, what else can be changed after the game? The call on the field stands, and there really wasn't anything Selig could do about it.

That part about moving the Brew to the NL to increase the chance at a WS... that's an opinion right?

You do realize that the chance to move was offered to Kansas City first, don't you?

Would it be safe to say that Selig is also a starry eyed bully?

Interesting. So why not let a guy who can field but can't hit have DH right? Why just pitchers? You want the best matchup... why not get 9 guys who are the best hitters in the league, and then just get the best fielders and then you can have an offense and a defense like in football.

Selig should have performed the appendectomy.
