4/24/11 American League Central

Cleveland 13 7 .650 -
Kansas City 12 9 .571 1½
Detroit 11 10 .524 2½
Minnesota 8 12 .400 5
White Sox 8 13 .381 5½

Hard to imagine that the Sox and Twins are at the bottom while the Indians and Royals are at the top. Crazy start to the season.

Bad news: The Sox have struggled in just about every area of the game.

Good news: The Indians and Royals are at the top of the division right now. No way that stays the same for very long.

Lots of baseball left to be played, the Sox will be fine.

Does FINE translate into GOOD.....or just some sort of A.L. Central 'Contender' in Seligworld?

I don't know how "good" but I would say they will be "good" enough to be in contention for the division.

The Sox record after 21 games last year. 8-13.

Been that way for almost 30 years. Why change now?

Very true but the Reds had more pieces in place than these teams have. I think before long Justin Masterson (4-0 1.71), Josh Tomlin (3-0 2.33) and Mitch Talbot (1-0 1.46) will start pitching like Justin Masterson, Josh Tomlin and Mitch Talbot.

Lipid not showing his baseball IQ!

2 Years ago The Reds had 5 of baseball America's top 25 prospects.

Dusty didn't just go and take that job out of the blue.

Same when he came to Chicago. he knew the pitching staff he was getting.

Sox will be right in the thick of it with somebody, who, I still don't know. Sox will put up obnoxious HR totals when the summer heat arrives. I like their pitching and yes, the pen will pull their weight and then some by the time the dust settles. Of MIN, KC, CLE, and DET, two will fall on hard times. As for the Twins, put a fork in them, they built a lineup to hit HR's but have a park that won't give 'em up. They are at the bottom of all of baseball in Walks and SB's. The Twins have changed and for the better from the Sox's perspective.

Meh...prospects are just names on paper until they actually do something to merit being talked about...

...wasn't comparing the teams anyways...just saying it's a bit foolish to pass something off so quickly...that's all.

Indians may not have the pieces in place, but the Royals have em. I still don't think they are quite ready to hang around all year yet.

Royals can hit, and they have been able to for awhile. I do not like the starting staff though and the pen is okay at best.

Sox will win this division.... I know, crazy to say right now in the middle of a slump. But it is April. It is difficult because we all expected these guys to come out hot. By all accounts they did at first. I do not know why these guys constantly fall into these slumps early, but I would rather get it out of the way now.

Looking at the schedule and the road trips the Sox have, if they are .500 at the end of May that is pretty good. If they can do that, they will be in the race all year long.

I am, however, amending my 97 win prediction down to 93 8)

Cleveland 24 13 .649 -
Detroit 22 18 .550 3.5
KC 20 19 .513 5
White Sox 17 24 .415 9
Minnesota 12 26 .316 12.5

Having a nice run the last few games, but still a lot of work left to do.

Of course, but you eat an elephant 1 bite at a time. I refuse to believe that Cleveland is going to play at a .650 clip all year unless they show me otherwise. First step is to .500. Then get the division lead down to 4 games or so by the AS break.

It just sucks that you have a pretty good road trip and you are still 9 games back.

Detroit has always been the team to beat.

Doesn't matter if its Detroit, KC, or Cleveland. Point is to get that division lead down to 3-5 games by the AS break.

Even though Grady Sizemore is back on the DL for the Indians with a bruised right knee, Cleveland has shown no signs of slowing down after their 19-1 smackdown of the Royals' candy ass last night in Kansas City. For the Royals' pitching staff, it was bad enough that starter Kyle Davies was forced to leave the game in the very 1st inning with shoulder stiffness. It was even worse for Vin Mazzaro. To say he was thrown to the wolves would be an understatement. In only 2 1/3 innings of work, Mazzaro allowed 14 runs and 11 hits, the third such pitcher since 1947 to allow that many runs in a single game, according to STATS, Inc. As soon as the game mercifully ended, Mazzaro was optioned to Triple "A" Omaha by the Royals. Needless to say, it was one game that the Royals and Mazzaro would love to forget.

That abuse that Vazzaro had was all because of Yost. What an asshat.
