Effective after tonights game. Apparently, is extremely upset over contract situation. Will not be managing Nats when playing against the White Sox. Weird.

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/ ... s-manager/

Quote:
Just minutes after the Nationals beat the Mariners with a walk-off sacrifice fly in a 1-0 game to move above .500 manager Jim Riggleman announced his resignation.

General manager Mike Rizzo explained that Riggleman expressed displeasure about his contract, which includes a 2012 option that the Nationals have picked up, and said he would step down from the job if it wasn’t handled by the end of the game. It wasn’t and he did.

What an odd situation, particularly with the Nationals playing their best baseball in … well, ever. Riggleman was clearly extremely frustrated by the entire situation. Or maybe he’s just a huge George Costanza fan and a big believer in leaving on a high note.

I believe saying that the Nats have picked up the option is a mistake. I do not believe they have.

Please tell me how this relates to the White Sox other than them playing each other??

I think most people had no clue that Jim Riggleman was still coaching.

It means someone else will be filling out the lineup card tomorrow night when the Nationals visit U.S. Cellular Field. I wonder what Rob Dibble's doing with his time these days...

Riggs probably figures if old man Jack can get another job in Miami, he might get a 2nd shot with the Cubs after Quade gets pulled.

I don't know about a second chance to manage the Cubs, Colonel... I thought this was Riggleman's third managerial chance in Bud Selig's Major League Baseball after managing the Cubs & Padres before getting the Nationals' job.

I think he also had a shot with the Mariners, too, if I'm not mistaken.
