Never said that. This was just a good old fashion game. They got 4 off a good pitcher. We got 3 against there good pitcher. They got a couple breaks but we got one the day before and couldn't take advantage. I still think they got the playoffs. I Have not given up on the division. This KC reliever we got is going to solve alot of problems.

Hey Midget for the reccord do you think they are making the playoffs? Yes or no? You always bring good points as to why they suck. But I've never heard you give a prediction.

If I have to give a yes or no answer, I'll say no, but I think the situation is a little more fluid than that. Are the Sox going to get Soriano--or will another AL wild card contender snag him? What other players will be acquired by the top AL teams? I guess we'll know more after the trading deadline, but if the Sox get Soriano, I like their chances of getting to the ALCS.

Well holy cow Midget. After all of your critisism of me and my confidence it looks like you are on the same page as me after all. I know you said "if we get Soriano". That is a big if. But that still means you think we'll get to the ALCS with this pitching staff and defense you have been bemoaning. It's going to come down to Sox vs Tigers in the ALCS.

Is it just me or did anyone else think Ozuna should have had that home run ball. I know it would have been a catch over the fence but it was right next to his glove.

No, Dolphin, I had the exact same thought. An above average LF’er makes that play. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, waited for the replay, and saw the same thing the 2nd time around.

if you're not worried that the sox have won only 3 out their last 11, you haven't been paying attention.

You're right, I'm probably being foolishly optimistic about the Sock's prospects if they get Soriano. But I need something to cling to, even if I'm doing so against my better judgment.

Here I go, throwing my two cent in again....

All of the talk about the Sox not making the playoffs because of their pitching staff is really driving me up a wall. Our bullpen is probably the best in baseball (especially now, with the addition of McDougal) and our starting rotation is one that ANY team in baseball would like, regardless of their collective ERA. With that being said, in all reality the starters haven't been giving up a ton of runs as of late... maybe just giving up runs with bad timing... but they really haven't been any different then they were in the beginning of the season.

The problem lies in our offense. True, Thome, Pauly, Dye, and even Crede have been putting up some power numbers... but most of that was done at the start of the year. Most of our hitters have either fallen asleep or gone blind as of late, and KW needs to make an adjustment QUICKLY before we find ourselves 10+ games out.

Are you kidding "best bullpen in baseball"? No way, yes we have Bobby Jenks one of the top closers in baseball, McCarthy as a solid long reliver but Cotts has not been that good this year, Thorton has great stuff but he's iffy in the pen, Riske nothing great, MacDougal is unproven this season.
I agree that the problem lies with our top two hitters and if Pods and gooch can turn this around the team should be poised for a post season run and if we get Soriano the line up is ridiculous.

Name me a team that has a better 5 guys in the pen than the Sox on paper.

Unfortunately, they don't play the games on paper Ugueth. Detroit and Minnesota's pens looked pretty damned impressive mowing us down.

You're right, they don't play the games on paper... but they certainly put the teams together that way, and that is what we're talking about: the make-up of the team. For the money, I still don't see a better, more cost-effective bunch of guys.

Ugueth, the Cubs have a better bullpen, Tigers and Twins have a better pen just to name a few.

Well you do that Frank. I will take Erye and Howry over McCarthy (as a relief pitcher) and Thornton. Jenks is a different story.

Well, since you can't take the player without taking the contract, I'll actually take MacDougal and Thornton over Howry and Eyre. They're being paid about $750,000 combined compared to the $6,200,000 that Howry and Eyre are being paid.

Ugueth then you should have said we have the most cost effective bullpen.

Ok Gooch, if you wanna call it that then I'll agree. But seriously, besides the fact that the bullpen is "cost effective", the talent in those arms is the best in the league.
