Carl Skanberg is a great cartoonist and a really nice guy. If you haven't checked out http://smellslikemascot.blogspot.com/ than do yourself a favor and do it now. He does lots of Sox cartoons but also some Hawks, Bulls and Bears ones as well... no Cubs cartoons of course.

Jesus h christ..... I find it hilarious that sox fans have already put Viciedo in the Hall of Fame

All I have been hearing the last week or so is how Viciedo is all this & all that and the answer to all Sox problems. The "cartoon / funny" becomes very ironic!

We haven't. We just understand how much better he is than Juan Pierre. If you want to discuss prematurely putting a guy in the Hall, let's talk about Castro and how Rozner already has him with 3000 hits.

Irony is a Cubs fan laughing about a Sox prospect after all of the "can't miss" guys from the Cubs system who got to the big leagues and failed miserably.

Both sides of town have their own list of guys who were can't miss but yet found a way to fail.

Cubs fans extrapolate A ball statistics to major league success.

Shall I bump the Beckham expectations thread?

Yes because he was in advanced levels before you could even begin to enjoy his A numbers. Oh, and he made it to the majors and has been a starter for three years.

I cannot name any Sox player below AAA. I do know the name of Josh Vitters.

He's awful and many here had him as a multi time all star and MVP

Are you enjoying his MLB numbers by the way?

Youre ignorance of your own teams system and obsession with slamming the cubs are not relevant here.

I never heard anyone extrapolate stats for fucking Josh Vitters.

You are reaching.

The one who is reaching is the one that is saying that a player who played 14 games in A ball is an example of how White Sox fans "extrapolate A ball statistics to major league success."

I was reacting to his larger point, that Cub fans get all excited about prospects who end up busts.

Gordon Beckham happens to be a perfect example of that.

Gordon Beckham is in his second full season in the big leagues and is only 24 years old.

He certainly hasn't been as good as everybody thought he would be, but there is still a lot of time for him to end up being the hitter we expected him to be. He has been nothing short of stellar with the glove this season as well.

I don't think it's a good example at all. Beckham's expectations were largely because of what he did in the majors and how fast he got there. He really never even had a chance to show what he could do in the majors because he was with a few teams for under 20 games and then came up to the big league team. There was very little "Beckham is killing it in the minors" discussion because by the time that would have happened he was on the Sox.

The bottom line is that Cubs fans are stupid.

Now that is not entirely right. People on here were talking up Bacon way before he got to the majors.

OBP/SLG/OPS

Downward trend for two years.

As bad as he was last year, he's WORSE, this year.

Youre gonna make Spanky's giant head explode with this "he can still be the hitter we expected him to be" non sense.

Around the draft they certainly were when they got him. I'm not doubting that expectations were high on Beckham. I'm doubting that his minor league performance had a big impact on it. He was barely there and really being with 4 teams over 60 games doesn't really give you a good sample size.

Concentrating on a minor detail rather than the main point. Thats so unlike you.

Whether it was due to his minor league performance or not. Whatever the reason: Sox fans were talking him up like crazy and he's terrible.

I don't consider it a minor point. I consider it his major point.

I think it was a shot at Cub fans expectations in general but even if it werent Im just opening up the discussion of Busts, like Gordon Beckham, and how their fanbases react to them.

Maybe if the Sox fans had jobs and got off the crack they'd be able to judge talent better.

Is that Hendry's excuse?

Well he wanted to trade for Alex Rios, but some shrewd GM beat him to Alex and his economically sound contract.

That's because he looked good when he was drafted, tore it up in Spring Training, spent maybe 1/3 of a season in AA, 15 games or something in AAA, then was up with the big club.

Starlin Castro was playing A ball in Florida and Cubs fans were screaming for him to be called up.

Because he was tearing it up and even national media were taking notice?

And he hasnt stopped tearing it up...

Bad example.

No doubt Cubs fans have been over the top in their love for prospects that they think are can't miss. But to make it seem like the Sox fans do not do the same thing is just dumb. Both sides of town do it.

No they dont.

There are NO g.ay sox fans
There are NO racist sox fans
No Sox fan has ever got excited for a prospect
Every Sox fan watches every pitch of every game and keeps score the whole time because theyre real baseball fans.
