Traded to the Rangers today. Glad Detroit wasn't able to get him. ![]() |

The trade being reported is Carlos Lee and OF prospect Nelson Cruz to Texas for reliever Francisco Cordero, OF Kevin Mench and OK Lancye Nix Mench is one of these talented players to not turn the corner yet. He's 28 and hitting 284 with 12 HR and 50 RBI. OPS around 800. Cordero was the closer coming into the season but is now the setup man and is 7-4 with 6 saves and a 4.81 ERA. His April was horrendous so his overall ERA since then is around 3.00. Both makes 4 million a year. Cordero has a 5M team option for next year. Mench might be arbitration eligible next year. Nix makes 350K and is arbitration eligible next year. Cruz is listed as a top 10 prospect for the Brewers, hitting 302 last year in AAA and having an OPS of 900. He had 17 swipes and 19 dongs. Questions around his contact - can anyone say Corey Patterson? |

![]() You'd think the Rangers had enough hitting, but I guess there isn't much out there from a pitching standpoint. Hard for me to fault Texas for getting one of the best players on the market. Surprised that Milwaukee would be interested in Francisco Cordero considering they already have one closer who couldn't finish games. Cordero does throw hard so maybe they think they can get him going again in the closer role. Kevin Mench is a White Sox killer.... I guess Milwaukee was looking for players to help right now as opposed for the prospect deal you'd probably expect as opposed to the Nationals who want top prospects for Soraino. The writing was on the wall for Lee, once he turned down the 4 year, 48 million yesterday. |

With his past couple of years, you'd have to guess Lee will get a Konerko like deal - 4 years for 60. |

This trade makes no sense for the Rangers and only slightly more for the Brewers. This is a result of Lee turning down a contract earlier. Seems like a trade just for the sake of trading. |

Well, for the Brewers it makes a little more sense. They were not going to get anything in return for Carlos Lee because he would have walked after the season. Mench is a decent replacement and assuming he is arbitration eligible for one or two more seasons, he'll provide some support for Prince Fielder. As for the AL West, it's there for the taking. The Rangers are taking one big shot at it with Lee. That middle of the lineup will be very very tough with Texiera, Blalock and Lee. A mini-murderers row. |

This was badly played by Milwaukee. They should have moved him at the beginning of the year. Will Texas ever figure out that at least half the game is pitching? |

Will Texas ever figure out that at least half the game is pitching? You are right - Texas never has the pitching, and while their offense is good, it's got to be unbelievable to carry that pitching... Saying that, the available pitching sucks. Greg Maddux, anyone ? Me neither. |
