With all the chatter, you have to think someone will overpay for Q and the Sox will move him.....Who else?

It sounds like CQ is all but gone.

Thornton probably won't be far behind.

I really don't understand all these rumors. The Sox are 3 games out of first and just won 4-6 from Detroit. Maybe if Kenny was blown away but it would have to be for major league ready talent and why would another team do that?? It just doesn't make sense.

They'll probably trade Adam Dunn and he'll have an explosive 2nd half and win the NL MVP. This in spite of the fact he'll get traded to Texas.

Honestly, Keyser, do you really think this team can win? We're 2/3 of the way into the season and they aren't even .500. Maybe they can shake things up and win this shitty division with some young, hungry guys.

I want to think it too, but every time I do I get slapped in the face with reality. This isn't a very good team. It isn't terrible. But it isn't real good. I don't want to watch these bums underachieve for another 60 games. I'd rather load up on young guys for the future and hope guys like Viciedo and DeAza can score enough to maybe make a run at a horrible division this season.

My heart says "They're only 3 back!"

My head says "They haven't won more than 4 in a row. Why should I think they'll start now?"

Of course Sox fans want to think that but the reality of the situation is this team isn't very good this year. I just don't see them being able to compete against very good teams in the playoffs, if by some miracle they got there.

Agreed. You will be in a tough spot because you're going to have to play Boston or New York in the first round, then the other in the second, and then Philly or Atlanta or SF. I could see one of those series going to the White Sox through some fluke, but they would be heavy underdogs in each match-up. If we could trade Q for some talent that could contribute in three or four years, then we could possibly have a few years of playoff runs where we would actually be considered the favorite in some of the match-ups. This team just isn't good enough to win the WS, Q or no Q.

Well, they've got the pitching to go with anyone in a series. Scoring is their problem. I'll take my chances if they can win the division. But I don't think this team can the way it's currently constructed. I think you can move some more guys, build for the future and give the team a better shot right now if you do it right.

Not going to win many games if you can't do that. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, that's a BIG problem.

Yeah, but scoring is a problem for anyone facing the White Sox staff too. That's why I'm not too concerned about moving a guy like Quentin. I don't think the offense can be much more anemic than it's been.

Well it wasn't a problem in 52 games this year was it?

Of course they can win the division because Detroit sucks. The Sox need to get more offense but they don't have to trade their second most productive hitter do it.

Why does Pierre have to stay? De Aza is the same player. Get rid of Pierre, bring up Viciedo and have an outfield of Viciedo, De Aza and Quentin. With the way they're pitching they just need an average offense and they'll be able to compete with anyone in baseball.

The whole thing about pitching and defense winning in MLB is a little bit correct, but a little bit misleading. Having key starting pitching candidates definitely helps you once you hit the post season. You need two stud starters. But two stud starters doesn't give you any secret access to making the playoffs. Look at the overall team to get you to the post season, and then look at the top two starters to give you a clue as to how far they will go. (And yes, you need other stuff too, but it always surprises me how many people are surprised by this.) BTW, the Sox do not have a dominant #1 and #2. More along the lines of an OK or alright.

No reason to think the Sox can't compete if they make the playoffs.

It depends why types of moves they make. The Jackson trade didn't impact the team's chances as long as Peavy is able to give them some innings. They now return to a normal 5 man rotation, and their starters have thrown less innings so they could be stronger down the stretch.

If Quentin is traded, I would assume it's because they believe Viceido is 100% healthy. It's possible they get back something that can help right now, but it would have to be a younger player who's not eligible for free agency/arbitration since that is why moving Quentin now makese sense in saving money. If they move him for good minor league talent, they can still claim they are competing for the division with Viceido taking over, but losing Quentin and replacing him with a minor leaguer, albeit a talented one, is not going to be believable.

To my knowledge, Dayan Viciedo's thumb injury is not believed to be serious. He has not played for Triple "A" Charlotte since he sustained the injury last Saturday. I've got to think, with the White Sox payroll situation, Carlos Quentin is as good as gone by the end of the weekend. There are three other guys that could be gone as well. FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal tweeted earlier this week that starting pitchers John Danks and tonight's scheduled starter Gavin Floyd are very much in play and both could be available.

One other guy I'd like to see pack his bags is Omar Vizquel. It's not because of the #11 he currently sports, but I maintain the White Sox can get something in return for the future Hall-of-Famer. I consider this a Jim Thome-like situation with Vizquel where the White Sox can trade him to a team that is best equipped to win a World Series ring this year.

There's a certain Red Sox SS that the folks in Boston aren't happy about, and that's journeyman Marco Scutaro. I also think Jed Lowrie's currently injured. Pair Vizquel with Dustin Pedroia and the middle of Boston's infield the rest of the regular season is set...I'm just sayin'.
