Post subject:  Ozzie's Replacement

It is probably a formality that Ozzie is gone. Who are we looking at as a replacement? I would imagine if Ozzie is gone, most of the coaching staff will be gone as well. Possible candidates
Buddy Bell---runs the minor league system. Awful record, dont get why guys like this get jobs over and over. Maybe he is a great "baseball guy".
Chris Chambliss--Was a finalist when Manuel got the job, managed Charlotte for a few years.
Joey Cora--Likely to be fired along with Ozzie, but if they want someone in-house, he has to be the favorite.
Tony LaRussa--Long shot...I think he is back in St. Louis. Even if he is not, if Jerry would not bring back Doug Collins, why bring back LaRussa.

If I had my pick, I guess I would take Chambliss. Not much of a list.

I like this selection, but only if Ryne Sandberg gets the Cub job.

Hmm.

That would be just the kind of jab at the Cubs that Uncle Jerry enjoys so.

Captain Redass isn't going anywhere, but he'll still just be the pitching coach.

I think Buddy Bell would get an interview...dude is a good baseball guy who was given a pile of shit to manage previously (hey hey)
Sandburg would probably get an interview, as would Dave Martinez.

I think of the options, Martinez would probably be the clubhouse leader.

Maybe they should get LaMarr Hoyt.

Joe McEwing is the triple A manager and they really like him. He's only 38 years old but if they think he'll eventually be a good manager they may give him a chance now rather than risk losing him in the future.

There is this Quade guy who would be a perfect fit. It has been predicted that he has the talents to lead a team to many championship seasons.

People do not go to games to see the manager. It might create some buzz, but the only way the Sox draw is by winning. I make Ryno the favorite for the Cub job.

It amazes me why people think guys like Buddy Bell would be good managers. His winning percentage is like .400. I don't care what his talent is, if you manage 5 or 6 seasons and have a winning percentage of .400 you are not a good manager. I dont care how good of a baseball guy you are.

Martinez is an interesting name. Ryno on the Northside, Martinez on the Southside, that would be fun.

The last Cub that was a Sox manager was Kessinger...how the fuck did that work out?

I don't care who the next manager played for. I just want him to win games. Martinez has been on Maddon's staff for 5 years and Maddon is one of the best managers in the game. I would rather see Martinez, Chambliss or even Ryno than some tired, retred like Buddy Bell.

To be correct, the answer is Tony LaRussa. He had a "cup of coffee" with the Cubs.

if the cubs are 13-20 in may next season...and the sox were 20-13 in may with sandberg...some cub fans would go to the cell to check a game out on a nice evening, i would..i think the cubs already passed on ryne sandberg and doubtful they hire him now one year later after this mess. i think sandberg gets the philly job in 2 years unless the w sox hire him sooner

Remember, JR does not negotiate contracts with agents for anyone but players. He hates to pay market rate for That means there will be no established candidates who would even interview for the job. It will have to be a young guy desperate for a job.

I would rather keep Ozzie AND Kenny around than any of those 4.
