If I here one more person pose this question I'm gonna shoot somebody. It's the dumbest thing in the world. What should they concentrate on? What should they focus on? You here idiots saying this all the time. Does focusing on the wild card instead of the division help you win that days game any more. It's just idol stupid jargon that means nothing.

IT DOESN'T MATTER. Just win every game you can and they'll tell you at the end if you're in or not and what seed you are. So please everybody stop posing this stupid question. Thank you.

The White Sox need to focus on winning games. They shouldn;'t be focused on the division or the wild card. If they win some games, they will find a way into the playoffs. (Funny that I had this discussion with my golf four some yesterday)

While the Sox should be primarily focused on winning games, I don't necessarily think it is a bad idea that they also "shoot" for winning the division. Do I think they will? Probably not, as Detroit refuses to show anyone ANY weakness, but driving to win the division while happily accepting the Wild Card is an attitude that I can be content with.

Ugueth that is what I was trying to say. Just win games. I didn't say they shouldn't try to win the division. My point is it doesnt' matter what you are "focusing" on. Just try to win every damn game. I didn't say be content with a wild card lead either.

Not that I want credit, but I do think this is exactly what I said last night in another thread.

I found it: http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=6226

I agree with the "just win games" logic. The problem is we all know where Kenny's team will be in October: Watching the playoffs on TV. That's not to say that they should quit and lay down, but let's be honest here - is this really a playoff caliber team? I mean really?

They remind me of the group of guys in 1997 who were only 3 1/2 games out and everyone still knew they weren't going to catch Cleveland. Or the group from 2003 who were just close enough to threaten Minnesota, but nobody thought they actually would.

We should all spare ourselves the headache and forget about it for 2006.

Even though there are only 16 games in a season, I predict Da Bears will go 30-0 and won't give up a single point in the playoffs.

But what if they make the playoffs? Just make the playoffs, wildcard, division winner, whatever...anything can happen, and if this pitching staff puts it all together then with our lineup I still say we take any team in baseball. They just need to be good enough to get into the playoffs, which WILL happen. Fuck the division, that ain't happenin...

I agree Mike...if they just get in, it's a completely different season. We've seen plenty of wildcard teams slide in the back door and win the whole damn thing - heck Florida did it twice.

These other teams in contention look much hungrier than the Sox do. That's where my concern comes from because they just don't have that "grinder" appeal that Kenny said was so important back when he first hired Ozzie. Anything can happen but man, these guys are wearing my ass out.

I think the Red Sox have made the playoffs 6 out of the last 10 years. Not once were they a division winner. People regard them as having a great run. Like you said the Marlins have 2 World Series in franchise history. They have no division titles in their history.

In baseball, the wild card does not mean a tougher road like it does in football. There are no bye's awarded in baseball for top division winners. Of all of the sports I believe home field advantage is least significant in baseball then the others. Except for the World Series because of the DH vs Pitcher scenerio. We'll have that advantage if we get there.

In 1997 they were below .500. In 2003 they were slightly above .500 but well out of the wild card.

This year they have the third best record in the entire MLB.

I don't get that. Other teams may be hotter and LOOK like they want it more, but that's just the stress talkin' man. No one is hungry, full, whatever...all these guys want to win. Other teams are just getting it done more right now...fine with me. We hit our swoon perfectly last year, got the shitty play out of the way in August and September, and pulled it all together in October. We aren't playing as well as other, yes, but that doesn't mean we can't...they only place to go is up. If we go down anymore, we're gonna be out of it.
How can anyone say a team wants a win more than the other?

I'm not sure, but if there are any players that have that mindset, then they would be in Pittsburgh or Kansas City and certainly not in Chicago.

On the South Side, at least.

Hire Dick Cheney, he could also be a good fullback

I love that duck. I gave everybody the over in this game in the wagering section. It's 10.5 and I thought they'd get it by the 5th without help from the Royals. I'll buy some good Vodka with this winning money. Yesssssss.

As you can see, the 5.5 games might be a little more difficult to overcome than we thought yesterday. Hopefully Schilling takes care of business tonight for Boston.
