Oswaldo Martinez...He's a shortstop by trade and currently at Triple "A" New Orleans, the Marlins' top farm team. They moved him over to second base because Ozzie will inherit another really good shortstop in Miami in All-Star Hanley Ramirez. Oswaldo might challenge Gordon Beckham for the second base job in Spring Training here. Speaking of Beckham & Alex Infante, the Marlins' everyday 2B right now, you might want to think about changing numbers for 2012. Even though there are still plenty of Beckham #15 jerseys and T-shirts at White Sox games at "The Cell", if former catcher and current Indians' coach Sandy Alomar, Jr. gets the Sox job, Beckham might have to relinquish #15 to his potential new manager. As for Infante, he currently wears #13 in Miami. I think your new manager might want that number with his new team... I'm just sayin'. |

It would have been better if we could have forced them into taking a bad contract |

The Sox will receive INF Ozzie Martinez and RHP Jhan Marinez for manager Ozzie Guillen. Baseball America had Martinez rated as the 5th best Marlin prospect before the season and Marinez 4th. Keith Law had Martinez 6th and Marinez 7th while John Sickels had Martinez 7th and Marinez 10th. Martinez (23) is a solid defender and has a very strong arm. He can play 2B, SS, 3B. He is a spray hitter with quick hands and gap power and has average speed. Martinez projects as a utility-type player. Marinez (23) has a power arm in a small frame ( 6'1” 165). His fastball sits 94-96 and can touch 98. He also throws a sinking 2 seamer. His slider is a plus pitch but command is an issue. Marinez projects as a back of the bullpen reliever with the upside of a quality closer. Not a bad haul for a lame duck manager. |

Looking at Jhan Martinez's stats, you have to think he'll get better under Coop. His year this year was the following: AA Ball -> 3-8 3.57 ERA in 56 games. 7.3 hits/9, 11.5 K's/9 BUT 6.5 BB/9 He needs to get some command. His 2010 was awesome split between A and AA WHIP 1.000, 4.5 H/9, 4.5 BB/9 but 13.7K/9 |
