Buerhle is now in THE SPOT.......where every professional ballplayer wants to be......HE IS IN POSITION TO BE THE TARGET IN A BIDDING WAR BETWEEN THE YANKEES AND RED SOX!!!!!!
Kenny Williams was busy wasting money on idiots like The Oaf, Rios and Peavy and the 200 innings per season pitcher goes on the market.

Meh.

I'm done overpaying for people.

And there's no way he's going to NY or Boston.

It's here, St. Louis, or hunting.

Well, since the White Sox probably lost between $40 and $60 million dollars this season, I'm sure they are done overpaying, too.
Buerhle's agent sure as Hell will listen to offers.
Why assume that Buerhle is just some goofy Hick when the jackpot is 2 months away?

He's got enough money for a hillbilly to live in Missourah.

Look at the Cardinals and how they finished the season to qualify for the postseason....then think about how thats the team he grew up rooting for and how it's the state he still resides in (Missouri) and the fact that they need another dependable starter. I say he signs there even if bigger offers come from N.Y. and Boston.

Buerhle would be a great 3rd starter for the Cards behind Carpenter and Wainwright (when he gets back from injury). I could see it happening.

Bob, Buehrle would have a 5 ERA in the AL East and stonerose would hold him in the same esteerm as Burnett.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Buehrle in Milwaukee next year.

I don't see Buehrle signing with the Cardnals or Brewers. The Cards just extended Chris Carpenter (2yr/$21M), picked up Adam Wainwrights option ($9M) and have Kyle Lohse ($11.875M) and Jake Westbrook ($8.5M) signed for next year. They also have to resign Roidface.

The Brewers have Greinke, Marcum, Gallardo and Wolf all under team control for next season and have some nice pitchers in the minors. I think they'll also make a run at Prince especially if they make it to the WS.

I think Buehrle will resign with the Sox for around the same amount of money but fewer years. I'll say 2yrs with an option.

Maybe if the lose CJ Wilson but I really don't see Buehrle as a fit in Texas either .

The team that scares me the most is the Royals. Not only is Kansas City much closer to Buehrle's home the Royals have said they will aggressively look for a veteran top of the rotation starter and Buehrle would be a perfect fit for them. Not only will he make 30+ starts and pitch 200+ innings he'll be a tremendous influence on their young pitchers. I think Buehrle would be a better bet for them than Gil Meche was.

Buehrle will teach the Royals' pitchers many things about how to look like you've been clocked in the face with a pan.

I can't imagine Buerhle will go to KC. Unless they throw 60/4yrs at him, why go to a place where you have little chance at winning. He could stay here and do that and retire an icon.

 Mark Buerhle's standard of living is probably 50k/year.

I'll burn my Ray Durham jersey if he goes to the Yankees or Red Sox. I gotta burn something.

Per Chat with Doug Padilla today:

Doug Padilla (1:32 PM)

Kenny took some of the beat writers to dinner last night (I had the scallops). He tried to sound optimistic on Buehrle but ended up being more reflective on the lefty's tenure. Sounded somber at times.

Maybe Kenny can take out Vincente Padilla next and give him a 5 year deal.

That's at least twice now by my count.

How can this be? Ozzie is a bad manager according to Fanboy Keyser....Ozzie is somehow responsible for the crap seasons the last 3 years...certainly not Red Ass Kenny Williams who provides the players. Doesn't Buerhle KNOW Ozzie is a bad apple?

I hope the reference to pitcher wins is a joke.

I also don't know who considers him an "ACE".
#1 starter ≠ ACE.

It's an absolute joke. In fact, there have been many great starting pitchers with losing records. Because wins are beyond their control. I just don't remember who they are. Can anyone help me out?

Oh I see what you did there.
You're right, every pitcher with a losing record is a loser.
Losers are worthless and hold no value.
You don't win World Series with losers on your team.
Only Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Felix Hernandez, Clayton Kershaw can get you there.
It's a simple pitcher hitter game.

I never said you had to have any specific guy to win a World Series. Though I am fairly certain you can't reach a World Series with five starters with losing records. At least no team has done it yet. Anyway, I want you to show me a guy you consider to be good starting pitcher with, let's say, 200 or more career decisions and a losing record. That guy must be out there if what you say is true.

My initial comment was to be taken as, "referencing wins for pitchers is not a true grade of their individual performance or value."
Guess I should have just said that. I will next time because I get responses like yours.

However, you found it fitting that I must point out a pitcher who is viewed as "good" with a "losing record" over 200 career decisions.

Why not find a pitcher viewed as bad with a winning record?
Carlos Zambrano has a record of 125-81 over 11 seasons. 60.7%
John Lackey: 128-94; 57.7%

In his first 11 years, Nolan Ryan only had a winning percentage of 51.7%, 167-158. What a fucking bum.

Good pitchers win more than half their games. Point taken. You have enlightened my baseball knowledge.

You really think Zambano and Lackey have been less than good pitchers?

People often confuse being difficult to hit with being a good pitcher. Ryan was the most difficult pitcher to hit. Ever. What he wasn't was a particularly good pitcher. That isn't to say he wasn't good. Just that he was nowhere near as good as his reputation suggests.

Who is the best pitcher ever with a losing record (200+ decisions)?
