Quote: Sergio Santos' ascent as the Chicago White Sox's closer has earned him a three-year, $8.25 million contract. The contract includes three club options that could buy him out through at least 2017. Santos could be a free agent if his option for 2016 isn't picked up. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ba ... 3325.story |

Fair deal even if he goes back to a setup role. He's earned the salary. |

Quote: options of $6 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $8.75 million in 2017 Good luck being good enough to see that cash. They might as well have made it ten times those amounts. (Someone feel free to repost this in 2015 to laugh at me.) |

The point Frank was that if Sergio goes back being a SETUP man, then it is not a good deal, because last year you paid a guy to be your closer $6M, who could not do the job and became the SETUP man. So if Sergio goes back to the role of SETUP, thats $9 M for 2 Players who are Setup Guys and you need to pay another guy to be your closer. Additionally, he said in an interview he started working with pitching coaches in 2008 while in Minnesota, then pitched for a year in the minors with the Sox. He will be 29 next year, so please spare me the "When this KID" figures it out line. |

He's due 6.5M this year. Grabow stole almost 5M All I'm saying is at 3M it's cheaper than what Kenny has been paying for setup men (Linebrink, Thornton) |

With what Frank said, converting from a shortstop only a couple of years ago has taken SIGNIFICANT wear off his arm I imagine. He has not once had to throw a breaking pitch in his MLB career until the past two years(?), probably only little league where everyone is a pitcher. Paying slightly under 3mil a season for a reliever who most likely won't fail due to injury is a risk I'd be willing to take. Also, he's the easiest pitcher to tell when they have their "stuff" or not. |

his is now in Terry Adams, Slocumb, and Farnsworth territory guys who at 29 had a few years in the big leagues and were still average inconsistent relievers despite having good arms |
