This one goes out to GOOD DOLPHIN, KEYSER, FRANKC in particular but I know you will all ove it....

This from ESPN/BASEBALL PROSPECTUS Kevin Goldstein:

Organizational future
One of the best stories in the minors this year was reliever Addison Reed, who went from Low-A to the big leagues in his full-season debut and could be the club's closer of the future.

With that out of the way, there's nothing else good to say about baseball's WORST minor league system. Trades, drafts that are cheap and unimpressive, and an inability to conduct business internationally due to recent scandals have left the system without talent. Reed is the system's top prospect, but deciding who No. 2 is can be a long and depressing exercise.

BUT WAIT THAT"S NOT ALL

Here are the ZIP's forecasts for 2012:
Best-case scenario ZiPS projection: 89-73
Worst-case scenario: 70-92

I am just reporting what is being said so DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER

The point of a minor league system is to produce MLB players. Santos, Sale, De Aza, Viceado, Morel, Beckham and Flowers will all be on the MLB roster next year.

So as long as your minor league system puts people in the big leagues they are a good system regardless of how good or bad those players are?

Houfpair made a big league roster as well, that did not make the Cubs minor league system good.

Let's see if Buehrle stays and what moves Clown Kenny makes in the next few months.

The veteran coaching staff is what will really help.

The White Sox will finish with a better record than the Cubs for the next three seasons...

 Yeah just like this year. Woooooo hoooooooo. So the Sox motto continues. We may suck, but we suck less than the Cubs.

Sox win 82 games next year and the Cubs win 79.

YES!

Baseball is a really hard game to predict three years in advance.
The White Sox arrow seems to be pointing down
Even if you are the most optimistic Sox fan, they are not set up for years of success.
Rebuilding is probably coming.

Those things may or may not be true. Still not seeing why my post is "silly". Never said the Sox are going t be great. It's actually more of a statement about where the Cubs are in addition to where the Sox could be heading...

Well, the hard to predict three years in advance is pretty common sensical no?

Youre predicting a team on the downswing (by ANYONE's estimation) will be better than a team, that by virtue of contract status alone, is due to get increasingly better over the next three years.

Also, in this era of MLB, no team is ever further than a good offseason away from contention.

I would deem any three year prediction to be silly.

Do you have any basis for your thoughts?

The Veteran laden White Sox won 8 games more than the Cubs this year and like i said, rebuilding is coming.

We'll just have to see, then. I can see things easily going wrong for the Cubs in Free Agency if Theo does some Theo things. Maybe it will turn out well. I'm just not sure.

I just see the teams as currenty constructed (which I admit, doesn't really mean much at this point) with the White Sox having the edge. Maybe 2 seasons would be better...

It would be if you weren't also predicting what the Sox will do over that time period.

2 seasons is a lot better.

Dont listen to people like Scorehead and others saying it will take 3 years for Theo to get his guys in. Thats pretty ridiculous and exaggerating the truth

You seem to be getting a little "Theo Fatigue"

Theo things= Win a world series every 4 years or so?

My predictions are not extended out three years and are not tied down to numbers.

I made very general statements. They seem to be heading toward rebuilding.

Very different than predicting 2014 W-L records.

If thats a shot at Theo....I would challenge you to find one (1) World Series team in the last fifteen (15) years who didnt have a steroid user on the team.

There are already some known quantities at the MLB level. Santos is a proven MLB closer. Sale may not be a proven starter but he's had a pretty remarkable career path including 1.5 years of MLB service. That's not banking on hope with those two.

The point is, these guys moved up more quickly to the MLB than ordinarily acceptable. If they were in the minors the Sox would have a rich minor league organization.

But doesn't that point to how bad the team is? If the Sox were a better club they would not have had all those guys in the majors already.

Most of them were ready. Santos and Sale have had great young careers. Morel had an acceptable rookie season. Beckham was very good in his first year. The others have all shown potential in late season call ups. The learning curves have been appropriate.

I am not as down as everyone else about next year. I thought they could challenge last year. Key players had record setting bad years that I don't expect to be replicated. I feel the same way I did at the beginning of last year.
