Post subject: | Question for the Group... |
I'll open up my 300th post by asking the group the same question that a reporter asked Ozzie after yesterday's win against the Twins: Do you think that the Wild Card will be decided in the Twins/Sox series Sept. 29th - Oct. 1st? |

What makes you guys believe that the White Sox are going to gain 4 to 5 games on the Twins over the next 30 games ? Just would like to hear the reasoning.. |

Do you think that the Wild Card will be decided in the Twins/Sox series Sept. 29th - Oct. 1st? Yes, and it is a major concern, as they will undoubtedly throw Santana and probably Liriano. |

Just would like to hear the reasoning.. no real reasoning, just a feeling i guess. the sox are gonna get hot and pull away from the twins soon. same sort of feeling i had last year. lots of sox fans were panicking with the tribe getting so close. i never had a doubt that the sox would somehow find a way to hold them off and win the central. same feeling i have this year. they're gonna find a way to pull away from the twins, at least take the wild card, and probably make one more run at the tigers. |

I hope that it doesn't come down to the final series and the Sox have clinched a playoff berth, but the September schedule is pretty intimidating. 3 games w/ Boston, a 6 game west coast swing, 3 against Detroit, 3 against Minnesota, and 6 games against the improved Cleveland squad. If there was ever a time to play up to our abilities the time is now. |

I'm only worried because of the fact that we said the same thing about last week's games against Detroit and the Twins. ![]() |

The last series with the Twinkies will decide the DIVSION because that is the nature of the game. I also believe, the loser will go home given the fact Detroit has so many games with the Royals (6 of final 9). Cleveland will be a big spoiler as they are playing for nothing and have a bunch of games to go with the contenders. |

You want it to come down to that last series. My logic being that the Sox win that crucial series and make the playoffs, they will already have that playoff mentality by the time the playoffs start. I liken this to last years situation were they played the Indians in a must-win series and when on a roll and basically marching through the play-offs. Whereas teams that had clinched it in August were sloppy and not ready for fast, competitive playoff baseball. Just my two cents. |

The Sox clinched it on the first night of the series and then played back ups on Saturday and Sunday. I don't buy into needing big games down the stretch to be playoff ready. It might be true for a team that has never played playoff baseball but not here. |

Sox are certainly doing what they can to give to the Devil Rays tonight.... Hopefully, the White Sox can pull this on off, especially with the Royals beating the Twins tonight in Minnesota. |

Well I was at the game with Stinkfinger, and lemme tell ya... the crowd was NOT happy with the Devil Rays getting within 3 runs after we lead the game 7-0 in the second inning. I'm not sure what Ozzie was thinking in leaving Sweaty Freddy in for as long as he did (sure, it was only the 6th inning when things got close, but beforehand he had a 5 run lead), but this has been a common issue with Guillen and his starting pitchers the entire season. |

[quote="Ugueth Will Cut You] I'm only worried because of the fact that we said the same thing about last week's games against Detroit and the Twins. ![]() Perfect point Ugueth. We've been waiting the last two months for the Sox to win the so-called "critical" games. As it is, they've only looked okay against the Twins. How well should we believe they'll play out west, where the Sox usually play sub-500 baseball? And even though the Red Sox are dead, they're still not exactly the Royals. |

I'll answer Ugueth's original question and say that the Wildcard will be decided in that final series against the Twins. |

Quote: Quote: Well I was at the game with Stinkfinger Where's he been? He's too good now? Sorry boys, I've just been really really busy lately. Work has been kicking my ass, which I suppose is repayment for all of the time I've wasted on here previously on the company nickel. Also, the apartment rental process has been an arduous one given that I'm still trying to conduct that business between The Swege and Lincoln Square. The fact that my beloved Sox are screwing the pooch 6 ways from Sunday doesn't help either. I'm one of those fans that when they lose, I don't want to read the paper, listen to the radio, or in this case, look at the boards just because it takes so much out of me, and I'm miserable about it as it is. And as if all this weren't enough, a certain red devil has started to re-enter the picture as well. These have been tumultuous times at Lake Shafer to say the very least. In any event, I'll be tailgating all day with some bros from college on Friday's Halfway to St. Pat's game, blasting the Thin Lizzy, House of Pain, and Denis Leary from the car. If anyone's going to be there, let me know, and we can enjoy a couple (stink)fingers of Jameson. Stink |

Yes. The Twins could be at least five games up by that point, rendering the whole argument meaningless. |

Are you kidding me (in my best Mike Patrick voice)??? What do you call what the Indians did to the Sox last weekend, without Hafner? Remember, we did not find out he was done for the year until this week... |
