No but it should be 3.5. If the Red Sox were not tanking the rest of the season, I promise you Rivera would have been in there.

i dunno. rivera is older now...they need him more so in the playoffs than they need to sweep a double dip from the tiggers.

if the sox played a double header, you'd see jenks close out the first game, and either thornton or macdougal pitching the 9th in the second.

That's my point. If Boston is 1 game back and the Yankees enter the 9th with a 1 run lead, Rivera would have been in.

At this point in the season you play tomorrow's game tomorrow, unless you have a 7.5 game lead...like the Yanks.

Maybe Boston can make a run at it with Ortiz and possibly Manny back in the line-up....

Scratch that, put a fork in 'em.

The Yankees are 8 games ahead and there is only 29 games left in the season. Thus the fork has been placed in the Red Sawwwx.

My apologies Mike, I should have took time out to actually understand what you were saying, I think the Yankees would be my favorite for overall homefield advantage they finish off the season with the Royals, a heaping dose of Baltimore, a bad Boston and Tampa Bay. Whereas the White Sox are duking it out in the AL Central with the Twins and Detroit in September. I forsee the White Sox winning the wildcard and playing NY in the first round.

Which is why Rivera not pitching yesterday in game 2 was big, and it's also what makes today's Sox loss that much more irritating.
