So anyone who has been there I think will agree it is a dump, but it is your Dump, I know, but still kind of surprised to see them losing a lease?

Listening to Sox fans bitching about it AND of course it's always not wanting one of those "Wrigley FuFu Bars"- While Wrigley has opened a couple of FuFu places Tryst and MOXIE, the other places are just good food and drink. Goose Island, Yahkzies, Barleycorn, Bar Louie, Moes, Red Ivy, Bernies,Casey Morans,Merkles,etc.... a good place to eat and drink around there would be a huge hit. Trust me, you Southsiders will learn to enjoy Deep Fried Quiche and a Low Fat Pina Colada (LOL!!!)

1. Not sure what the lease reads, but a commercial broker or an Attorney may have been a good idea. (Myself or Good Dolphin come to mind)

2. Most leases have a simple Holdover clause, which states what the penalty is for staying past the lease expiration. Thus staying open if there is a playoff run should not be the big of a deal, might cost some money, maybe 150% or 200% of the rent.

3. Might be tough for the new ownership to get a Liquor License when the Neighborhood notice comes out, as neighbors might jump on this guy, then the Alderman backs the neighbors/Voters and his liquor license is rejected (Welcome to the way of the Northside)

4. If I am Jimbos, I make a 6 month extension offer and go looking for other property. If the can't afford to buy, state what they can pay in rent and I am 100% sure some developer will buy the building and lease it back to them. Maybe even one named...JERRY?

Jimbos is no more of a dump then a handful of bars around Wrigley. When you serve 1000's of people Beer before and after a game it's tough to keep a place looking nice. It's really not necessary anyway because people aren't going there for ambiance. It's just a place to have a few before and after games.

Somethings fishy about this. I'm sure with the recent success of the Sox and the more populated area has forced somebody to squeeze Jimbos for more money. I'm willing to bet this is resolved and Jimbos stays.

2. I don't think they have a holdover. They did get some good advice as an alternative. If appears they will stay and make the owner evict them. This will take more than the one month they need to get through the world series. If I were the owner I would not want them out until after the new year. The new use won't need to be up until opening day which is more than enough time for a build out.

3. Wanna bet. Owner= De Grazia; De Grazia= Roti and Barbara; Roti and Barbara= lots and lots and lots of danger personally and professionally. As Cl. Jessup would say, that means grave danger.

4. They are in there 60's. They are not moving. Goodbye Jimbo's.

They serve canned beer. I drink canned beer at bad neighborhood parties and when I visit Marquette.

CHICAGO -- Say it ain't so, Jimbo.

The beloved White Sox bar Jimbo's Lounge has lost its lease and will close, possibly before the playoffs.

Proprietors Jimbo and Joyce Levato got the sobering news in a letter last week that their clout-heavy landlords will not renew their lease after 22 years at 32nd and Princeton.

"We're not taking it too well. Jimbo is really upset," Joyce Levato said. "They want us out Sept. 30."

That's the day after the Levatos will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, and a week after the White Sox's last home game of the season.

Joyce Levato said they have no plans to move out that soon, especially if the Sox make another playoff run.

"We've got so much stuff and all the pictures on the wall to get out. I'm not leaving at the end of September," she said. "That's probably when they'll start eviction proceedings in court."

The shot-and-a-beer joint always booms during baseball season, carrying the bar business the rest of the year.

After the demolition of McCuddy's to make way for the new ballpark, Jimbo's became the fans' closest bar. And this year's sellout crowds at Sox Park have brought standing-room-only postgame gatherings to Jimbo's, drinkers sometimes spilling out onto the sidewalk.

Building owners Raymond and Donna DeGrazia apparently want to open their own business there and aren't interested in renegotiating the lease, Joyce Levato said.

The DeGrazias, who live in Bridgeport, could not be reached for comment.

Like most things Bridgeport, the DeGrazias have a long history with Chicago politics.

Donna DeGrazia is the first cousin of Mayor Richard M. Daley's close pal Fred Barbara, and both are related to late mobster Bruno Roti Sr. Donna DeGrazia also works for North Side Alderman Thomas Allen (38th Ward), and her brother, a Streets and Sanitation worker also named Fred Barbara, owns a hot dog stand next door to Jimbo's.

The DeGrazia family also has a history in the restaurant business.

Raymond DeGrazia's mother is the founder and namesake of Connie's Pizza, but the family no longer owns the business.

i remember reading "118k" as well Dolphin, but was that the priced paid by the relative that owns the hot dog joint in the same building?
