This is just removing one more roadblock holding up the major league debut of Kenneth Williams.

The Padres have acquired Carlos Quentin from the White Sox for pitching prospects RHP Simon Castro (23) and LHP Pedro Hernandez (22).

Not unexpected with th emergence of Dayan Viciedo. Both pitchers were in AAA last year. Hernandez looks to be the better of the two.

edit: Castro was rated as the teams 3rd best prospect last season and was BA's 57th ranked prospect in 2010 and 58th in 2011. He had a down 2011 in AA and AAA (7-8 5.63 ERA). Hopefully he can regain the stuff that made him such a highly regarded prospect.

I hope so for you WS fans. Sounds like purely a salary dump to me. Thought he'd have more value than these guys. Wow. Of course we are talking about "Kenny" here.

Early word from scouts is that both prospects from Padres to White Sox don't have much upside. So for CWS, a payroll move, in part.

Kennys spin on this trade

You would not be able to get a guy like this last year (castro) but due to back issues now you can, of course he is healthy though? Per KW

Kenny can see BOTH players pitching in the Majors THIS YEAR, Castro reminds him of Contreras

"Lemme tell ya', what Kenny Williams has done with this roster is nothin' short of amazin'! To rebuild this team like he has and still have a chance at winnin' this division is why he is the best GM in baseball in my opinion! Stoney...wadda ya think"

"Welllllllll...Hawk....I don't a real opinion, but some people have told me some things."

I have no idea. The worst team I've thought they had starting a season in the past ten years won the World Series.

Lillibridge to right or left? He needs to play everyday

No.

He is not a guy you want playing everyday. He is a nice piece to have on the bench, but if he plays everyday he will be exposed as a bad player.

He is like Mike Fontenot for the Cubs a few years back. He got some big hits as a bench guy and suddenly everyone wanted him to play everyday. He got that chance and then everyone saw how bad he really was.

So you think he cant put up Pierre/Rios numbers? He's got a little pop and he can run. I'm thinkin yer not a De Aza guy. For this team, Lillibridge has to play everyday. WHo else ya got? They arent getting anyone else.

No, he can't put up Pierre or Rios numbers over the long haul. If Lillibridge is playing in your outfield everyday, you've got serious problems. Hell, he's a guy who should be questionable to make the team, although his versatility will probably guarantee him a spot.

I think the Sox figure De Aza earned a shot at the job, plus he's the only guy they have that looks anything like a traditional lead-off hitter. Barring any other moves that may affect the outfield, they're going with De Aza in center and Rios and Viciedo on the corners.

What are you smoking? This guy will pull down at minimum 30M. Do you really think Uncle Jerry will approve that kind of cash??

I can appreciate that but CQ had value. That value was not matched int his trade.

Are you sure about that? Castro started the futures game in 2010 and was one of the top prospects in all of baseball. His mechanics fell apart in 2011 and you are on record as saying the Sox organization and Don Cooper are very good at 'fixing' pitchers. I would think you of all people would LOVE this trade. The Sox got a possible ace for an injury prone streaky hitter who is 1 year from free agency.
