Well, the trouble here is you've all but promised Brandon McCarthy a starting slot next year.
So who do you trade?
Buerhle? He's your only lefty so that's a no.
Contreras? He's old and the magic is seemingly gone. Might not have much value.
Garland? He's been the ace the last year and seems to be developing into a top of the rotation guy and locked up for a couple of more years. High value, but doubtful that Kenny moves him.
Vasquez? Still owed good coin for a 500 starter.
Garcia? Big Game Freddy would be good for a contender as a 3/4 starter.

Garcia seems to be the best candidate to be moved at this point.

One starter must be moved if the Sox have any hope of making necessary changes. If Freddy has two more good outings, his value will be very high. At the same time, close observers realize he was a pain as a pitcher and a teammate the entire year. So you trade Freddy for inexpensive help at short, left or the bullpen and you have plugged up holes with a trade while also creating more money to take care of the remaining holes.

I doubt that. Ozzie seems like he is more about winning that making friends. He understands that it's a business. He loved Aaron Rowand, and he didn't hold that against K-Smoove.

That would be a bad move doug. You trade him when he is at the peak of his market but towards the end of his usefullness to the organization. The only 1 of the 5 that fits that description is Freddy. I pray that he is equally dominating his last two starts.

Do we think Freddy is going to get the missing MPH back on his fastball ?

His last two outings have been great, basically perfect, but does that outweigh the average/below average Garcia that we've seen for the prior 4 or 5 months ?

The other concern I have, and this may go back to his fastball losing MPH, is the # of innings he has thrown over the course of his career.

Maybe playing into the World Series last seaon, plus playing the World Championships caused the decline in his fastball, but I think there are more reasons to make him the most likely to be moved.

Of course, Kenny Williams could use the same approach he used last season on Garland/Contreras, and offer Buerhle a new contract with the consequence of trading him if he doesn't sign close to the White Sox terms and timeline.

Bye-Bye Freddy! I hope you stay in the AL next year so our guys can pound out 8 runs in the first inning against you and your 88Mph fastball. Maybe Paulie can get into double digits in SBs since you are absolutely useless at holding runners on!

You won't get as much for Vasquez, he is less expensive to the Sox (I believe the Sox part of his contract is 8 mil), and he is signed for a longer period of time. That would be from another team's perspective.

From the Sox perspective include, he showed up overweight this year and admitted disinterest against team like the Royals (who subsequently pounded him), he has lost miles from his fastball and seems to rely entirely on changeups now, every single is a double as they are stealing on him at an incredibly high success rate.

As for Buehrle, if someone is willing to knock my socks off, then fine. However, I am willing to consider 1/2 a season out of a career an anomaly. Lefty pitchers of his quality and age do not come around very often.

2 years ago Barry Zito was 11-11 with a 4.48 and everyone in Oakland was crying 'what's wrong with Zito'?!?!? This season he's 16-9 with a 3.91 and leading his team into the playoffs. Mark Beuhrle is staying.
