Santos blew his first save chance with the Blue Jays yesterday. I won't be the least bit surprised if he's moved out of the closers role at some point this season. Santos has a great arm but I'm not sure he has the mentality to be an elite shut down closer.

Amazing you say this once he is traded.

JORR was saying it last year when he was actually with the Sox.

Santos was a mixed bag, great stuff but he could get thrown off his game. Part of the issue is that once this was discovered, it took Ozzie way too long to have a backup warming up just in case. When Santiago went out yesterday, I believe Robin had at least one other reliever warming up if not two (Crain most likely). This is just common sense when you have a guy who is very new and still learning how to handle themselves under major league pressure.

I dunno man, you're going out on a very shaky limb, here.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic but people were reacting like they traded away the next Mariano Rivera. Last season the Sox lost 10 games when they entered the 9th inning with the lead. That was the most for them since sometime in the 1950's. Obviously it wasn't all Santos' fault but the majority of those loses were on him.

I think his minimal salary and a proven bullpen guy (if not a starter) for $435K is the issue.

Time will tell, but this may have been a case of a scout/player development guy being too in love with his selection of Nestor.

Why is that? Because the 'experts' said so?

Santos blew another save. Gave up 3 runs in .2 innings. He's 2-2 in blown saves.

Everyone misses now and again.

It's the brilliant ones that recover and prove everyone wrong.

Kenny has won the Santos trade and the Guillen firing.

Peavy was a great deal too. Gave up nothing for him. Unfortunately, he got injured and couldn't make his starts. He's a winner though, 17-13 for the Sox. Project that out to 51-39 and that's pretty good. Injuries happen in sports.

If you want to talk about Kenny's bad deals, let's talk about Hudson and other kid they gave up for Jackson and the fact that he gave away Swisher for nothing after giving up Gio to get him.

too early to say if kenny won the santos trade...and peavy was a huge mistake...you don't bring n.l. pitchers in a massive stadium(petco) to the cell and expect success ..... and i believe peavy was injured when kenny acquired him..no?

Peavy wasn't a "huge mistake". And he's been successful in the AL in a hitter's park when he's been able to pitch. He's just been hurt. He's a winning pitcher.

You've just explained why ERA isn't important. Petco doesn't make pitchers better. It just makes them look better on paper. The guys you're facing have low ERAs in that park too.

And yes, Peavy had that achilles injury or whatever it was when Kenny traded for him. They probably shouldn't have pitched him that first season. Still, I'm not sure that had anything to do with the major injury he had in 2010. Latissimus Dorsi!

for his salary 100 innings is less than half the workload he needs have...peavy peaked years ago and will never be that pitcher again. if kenny could undo 3 moves right now..it would be dunn/peavy and rios...3 mistakes.

Blue Jays placed RHP Sergio Santos on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Sergio Santos (shoulder) has resumed a throwing program.
Santos has been shut down since early June with renewed discomfort in his right shoulder. He remains without a timetable to start throwing from a mound, but it's at least a sign he's beginning to make progress. Santos has been on the DL since April 22 and is essentially starting from scratch in his rehab.
