Since they know he will stink at his new job, there's already an excuse ready and built-in to help explain away said stinkiness. |

Yeah I dont get it at all. If he is hurt you put him on the DL and let him rest. Now what do you do when he is healthy? Does he go back to the rotation? |

What the hell does Addison Reed have to do? Strike out 4 guys in an inning? |

Shhhh...that would mean you NAME his closer...and then everyone else knows he is your closer and they can plan around it, but if you keep it a secret, then you can surprise everyone. Announced late Friday afternoon? bummer...missed the Coop v Mully/Hanley hour on this one... Whoa whoa whoa |

This move makes no fucking sense. If Sale really has a sore elbow then shut him down and build him back up. Pitching balls out and sporadically in the bullpen will not help heal his elbow. What's the life expectancy of a closer? A year? A year and half? He has no long term anymore. They keep him in the bullpen and he's done in 2 years if not sooner. You just got a shut down closer for a .500 team. Good call guys. Assholes. |

Has there ever been example of someone doing this before? |

RFDC wrote: Has there ever been example of someone doing this before? Well, I don't think teams have been quite as conscious of big jumps in innings pitched in the past. I was kind of surprised to hear bernstein whining about this move since I'm damn near certain he would have excoriated the Sox had Sale pitched 200 innings this season, parroting Fangraphs regarding what has occurred to pitchers after such a big jump. It's a way to limit his innings this season. But he's going to have to progress to pitching more at some point if he's going to be a starter. And if he isn't starting, the Sox are fucking morons. It's an absolute waste of a huge talent and a giant mistake if they are making him a closer going forward for his career. |

I understand they want to limit his innings and rightfully so. But why do this now? Why start him in the rotation and then switch him? If his elbow is hurting then put him on the DL for awhile and let him rest, won't that help limit his innings as well? |

I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure there is no arm injury that makes it better to pitch an inning three days in a row than six innings once a week. |

Chris Sale might be looking at a DL stint after you read this: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/05/09/ ... -have-mri/ |

Terry's Peeps wrote: So now Sale is back in the rotation. Fuck you Coop. Told you JORR. I don't think there's any way in the world Cooper was going to make a unilateral decision like that. Reading between the lines, I gather that Kenny is the only guy in the organization who thinks Sale can succeed as a starter besides Sale himself. I suspect Cooper was trying his best to steer the kid to the pen and keep him there. Cooper isn't going to come out and say that. Cowley's article seems to support that idea. Obviously Kenny overruled that. As a fan, I'm fine with that. If he breaks down, he breaks down. But the upside of having him starting is so much greater. But the truth is Cooper knows a lot more about pitching than Kenny and Kenny strikes me as the kind of guy who would say, "Fuck Ozzie. I''ll show everyone this guy can be a successful starter." |

It strikes me as Kenny being the only one with a brain in the organ-I-zation. I reiterate my invitation for Coop to forcefully violate himself. |
