He's on a pace to throw over 210 innings after throwing just 71 last season and never over 138 in his life, so it will be no surprise to me if Sale deteriorates as the dog days of summer roll on. In his last start Sale gave up 10 hits and struggled against K.C. more than one might expect. I think this is a trend that will continue. In that start, Sale went 8 innings and threw 115 pitches. Again, Ventura went deeper in the game with him than I believe prudent. I expect Sale's ERA to rise in August and September and if he doesn't have any issues with injury, his performance level will decline. If the ballclub were smart, they would shut him down in mid August, but I don't expect they will.

BREAKING NEWS: Rookie pitcher "may" not pitch as well in August.

Good prediction. I also predict Dunn will strike out a lot in August and that the Cubs may look to move assets at the trade deadline.

I predict Sale will throw 100% of his pitches with the left hand for the rest of this season.

Also, I could see as many as 10 teams making the postseason

Love how a start where he gave up 1 earned over eight is your example of how he is wearing down.

He looks terrible. He will be getting Tommy John surgery any day now.

He's gonna blow!

A sale indicates you're getting money for something. The Cubs are trying to pay people to take their garbage.

Thats not true.

Garbage like the league leader in E.R.A. and a 28 year old starting pitcher with a reasonable salary?

No, not garbage. Those are legitimate assets. The only contract thing is Soriano, which is unlikely anyway.

Dempster and Garza are not garbage, but the Cubs are not getting a King's ransom for either guy.

Well you'd have to define King's Ransom. I think they'll get some decent return. Cubs hold all the cards, especially with Garza

Garza has value because he is restricted next year. Dempster will tough to extract a lot of value due to his big contract and pending free agency. Plus he was just injured.

If my team's big trade-deadline playoff splash was to acquire Dempster, then I wouldn't put too much hope in the playoff basket. If my team's big trade-deadline playoff splash was to acquire Garza, then I would hold off on scheduling things in October and move funds around in order to make the deposit when I receive literature in the mail from the team.
