Post subject:  RV's Lineup: Fix It...NOW!

Regardless of whether the White Sox are winning or losing these days, a common complaint among callers to Chris Rongey's "Xfinity Feedback Zone/White Sox Radio Network Postgame" after games is RV's refusal to take DH/1B Adam Dunn out of the #3 spot of his lineup. This as Dunn is flirting with a .200 overall BA and is on track to breaking his own single-season strikeout record that he set a year ago.

While fans continue to bitch and moan about Dunn, consider this, Sox fans. Before he left to become the Miami Marlins' manager, Ozzie moved Dunn out of the #3 spot many times last season, and guess what? It didn't work and Dunn was miserable no matter where he was penciled in, even when Dunn sat for a few games and wasn't even in the lineup.

It's not just Dunn that has been awful lately. 1B Paul Konerko has only 2 RBI's in July, while 2B Gordon Beckham has struggled since being dropped from #2 to #9 and even 3B Kevin Youkilis has gone into an offensive funk, too. The White Sox offense in general has had a lot of trouble struggling to score 1 run, let alone 5 runs a game since the All-Star Break. The time has come for RV to shake up his lineup and go back to a combination that was most productive before the Youkilis' acquisition from the Red Sox. That lineup starts with CF Alejandro De Aza & putting Beckham, despite the subpar BA & on-base percentage, in the #2 spot.

Here's what else I'd like to see RV do with his lineup:
*Move Youkilis down to 6th where he was more of an RBI guy during his years in Boston
*Your #7, #8 & #9 hitters should be C A.J. Pierzynski, LF Dayan Viciedo & SS Alexei Ramirez
*Youkilis or 1B Paul Konerko Batting 3rd in Games Dunn Isn't In the Lineup (Not Many)
*RF Alex Rios in the #4 Spot when Konerko Isn't in the Lineup
*Beckham Leads Off when De Aza Isn't In the Lineup

These are just a few suggestions worth considering before this White Sox season gets away.

It sounds like the White (meaning light skinned) White Sox are struggling.

It's a team-wide problem.

Especially in Cleveland I'm guessing.

That looks like a lineup that Liriano could no hit.

Well, he no-hit the White Sox, I think a year or two ago at the Cell.

I did.

What did the White Sox fix that wasn't broken?

The lineup...It was productive when De Aza & Beckham were #1 & #2. It's no longer productive with Youkilis in there. That was the idea behind the thread!

Post subject:  Re: RV's Lineup: Fix It...NOW!

Youkilis has been the Sox most productive hitter since he got here!!

Was it not productive with De Aza and Youklis at the top until it wasn't?

In the last 2 weeks, not so much.

So let's shuffle the lineup every time it struggles for more than a week.

Good idea SHARK.

If it ain't fixing it, don't break it.

I just don't like the logic that because a guy hits marginally less horribly in the 2 spot, as justification for him being in the 2 spot. You suck at hitting, you go in the 9 hole, or wherever the manager sees fit. Youkilis is fine near the top of the order, he will walk and work a count. Beckham has a good month or two a season, but he has enough of a track record now of being a below-average hitter, I think we can comfortably projet that he is what he is at this point.

Defense is Gordon Beckham's calling card. Make no mistake about it. That being said, I heard Mac & Spiegs mention the name Robby Thompson, who used to play with the Giants some 20 years ago, in the same breath with Beckham last week.

I think Robby Thompson would hit one out of the yard every once in a while. And I don't recall him being anything more than an average fielder... so No. I don't think it's a very good comparison.
