The White Sox continue their 7-game road trip with another trip to the site of the MLB All-Star Game, Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. After the Royals came into U.S. Cellular Field taking 2 out of 3 from the Sox earlier this month, the Southsiders return to the All-Star City with payback on their minds as they try to extend their lead in the AL Central. Wouldn't you know it? The 2 Royals' pitchers that frustrated Sox hitters earlier this month are on the mound this weekend. Here are the mound matchups:

TONIGHT: 7:10P, Comcast SportsNet & 670 The SCORE/White Sox Radio Network
CHW: 49 Chris Sale (LHP; 14-3, 2.90 ERA) vs. KC: 39 Luis Mendoza (RHP; 6-8, 4.37 ERA)

SATURDAY: 6:10P, WGN (CW9/WGN America) & 670 The SCORE/White Sox Radio Network
CHW: 44 Jake Peavy (RHP; 9-8, 3.04 ERA) vs. KC: 52 Bruce Chen (LHP; 8-10, 5.56 ERA)

SUNDAY: 1:10P, CSNC & 670 The SCORE/White Sox Radio Network
CHW: 62 Jose Quintana (LHP; 5-2, 2.77 ERA) vs. KC: 33 Jeremy Guthrie (RHP; 2-3, 4.02 ERA)

The Sox pitching is set up for them to sweep. Hopefully they can beat up Chen and get ol' Jake some run support. 2 out of 3 is a must this weekend, and a sweep would make for an oh so nice road trip.

Well, Frank, while Chen & Guthrie dominated White Sox hitters in Chicago, the Southsiders actually got to Chen in his last start in KC right after the All-Star Break last month.

I thought the Sox scored 6 runs off Chen in KC last month in that 14-inning marathon in July, while 2B Gordon Beckham actually led off the game a couple weeks ago & homered for one of the few Southside highlights when Bruce dominated Southside hitters at The Cell...

Quote:
The White Sox activated first baseman Paul Konerko from the seven-day disabled list on Friday, one of four roster moves the club made prior to its series opener at Kansas City.

Chicago also recalled left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago from Triple-A Charlotte. To clear space on the 25-man roster, the White Sox placed infielder Orlando Hudson and left-hander Leyson Septimo on the 15-day DL.

Konerko leads the White Sox in batting average (.316) and on-base percentage (.388) and is tied for first in OPS (.892). He last played Aug. 7, when he took an elbow to the head from Royals outfielder Jarrod Dyson while covering first base. Konerko was placed on the DL three days later.

Santiago, who was optioned to Charlotte on July 30, has a 3.66 ERA, 43 strikeouts and 21 walks in 39 1/3 relief innings for the White Sox this season.

Hudson, whose DL stint is retroactive to Thursday, has a contusion in the first metatarsal joint in his left foot. He left Wednesday's game at Toronto after fouling a ball off the foot, and is hitting .182 over 36 games with the White Sox.

Septimo, with a 6.00 ERA over 12 appearances, is suffering from left biceps inflammation. His stint is retroactive to Tuesday.

That Septimo injury is BS as they want to send him down but he is out of options.

I love that Perez on the Royals.

This is really set up for a sweep. Sox are flying high according to Ventura, after their three straight wins in Toronto.

That was a game where a manager insinuated himself and prevented the players from winning. A game lost on intentional walks and bunts. Fuck that shit.

Sox are wetting the bed in KC. Had their 2 aces pitching in the series, and looks like they will be trying to avoid the sweep tomorrow. If you want to win the division, you need to win every game against KC and Minnesota.

It is hard to out pitch anyone when your team has 4 errors.

Post subject:  Re: 8/17-19: Payback Time in Kansas City

I didn't see the game tonight, but a good pitcher pitches over errors. "Errors" aren't a real thing anyway. Some guys get to less balls and make less errors. So it calls into question what an "earned run" actually is. It's really a matter of what percentage of plays a fielder makes. Calling certain events on batted balls "errors" is simply a matter of scorekeeping.

Sale pitch pretty well last night, but that game came down to one key at-bat and Sale (one of the better starters in baseball) made a bad pitch to Perez (a very ordinary hitter), and a loss resulted. There's no point in saying the Sox should have given Sale fifteen runs of "support" against a bad team and a less than average pitcher. It didn't happen. Sale earned that loss. Peavy has a .500 record that belies a low ERA because he has made his bad pitches at the worst possible times on many occasions this season. It is what it is.

I might suggest that when you order a guy who is slugging a million over the last two weeks to bunt with two runners on and nobody out, you probably deserve to lose the ballgame. Motherfucker nearly bunted into a triple play. Sillyball.
