The Ranger had a caller yesterday who was mentioning how he believes the Sox park is in a crappy neighborhood where he fears crime. The Ranger disagreed and said that he was never afraid of being in that area even late at night and he said there were more shootings in the Wrigleyville area than around Comiskey Park. I'd like to hear some thoughts from Sox fans and non-Sox fans. Is the Ranger right that the area around the park is safe or is the callers's claim more accurate? |

Its not dangerous to go to Sox games. The area surrounding the Cell is a worse neighborhood than the one surrounding Wrigley. |

I wear a bullet proof vest under my Cubs jersey every time I go to a Sox game. |

But if you make a wrong turn you can be in a bad area quickly. A couple years ago my brother made a wrong turn leaving the ball park and had a cinder block thrown through his back glass. Just thankful no one was sitting back there. |

Wouldn't the fact that there are more people in the Wrigleyville area automatically make for more shootings as there are more people to shoot? |

Did the destruction of the Robert Taylor Homes help the Sox fans feel safer? |

Terry's Peeps lives in the area. That mere fact means it's a very dangerous neighborhood. |

During my 4 hour adventure through Chicago in 2009, one of my dozen or so attempts to find the entrance to the Hyatt on the river led me to taking the highway all the way down to the cell...during my time driving around to find a way back on the interstate, I never felt any more unsafe than I would have in other areas... |

But isn't that what going to the city is all about (i.e. being afraid of black people)? |

If you park in a lot at the cell, you never walk in a neighborhood anyways. |

The neighborhood around U.S. Cellular Field is relatively good. There are bad sections, just like you would find around other stadiums built in downtown areas. I think that the United Center neighborhood was much more dangerous to walk around until a few years back. |

It sure is different than when I was a kid. But there are a lot of halfway houses in the neighborhood. A guy who they had staying at a Catholic one just west of me killed again this summer. I'm pretty sure George Ryan is a new neighbor at the one on Ashland and Monroe. I'm gonna see if I can buy him lunch at Wallace's Catfish Corner before he heads back to Kankakee. |

I don't even drive on the Dan Ryan. What if my car breaks down in a "black" area? |
