I know you can only blame the manager for so much, but I do think if it wasnt one of the teams favorite sons, he is fired! or at the least, the discussion is being had about his future of not being renewed, yet the Sox offered him an extension? Forget about the losing streak, even before that they have been at the very bottom of the league in most offensive and defensive categories. Just because he is a great guy, it doesnt make him a great or even good manager. See the President of the United States! The fact he was basically out of the game for 10 years and the Sox thought they can just make him the manager and everything will be fine, is almost a slap in the face of every team who has ever spent good money on picking what they think will be a manager that made a difference. Robin seems like he would be a good guy to have on staff and I do think it might have been a smart move to bring him in as a bench coach for at least a year, if you really had to make him the manager. |

You know how JR is with hiring non on field/court personell. He won't deal with agents which eliminates anyone with any track record and most hot commodity types. His negotiations are demeaning to those coaches once they prove themselves and are looking for their second contract with the team. He pretty much has to hire outside of the box candidates. That leaves you with calling up Robin while he is on the golf course enjoying the $100 or so million he earned in his careeer and twisting his arm to take a high stress job for $1 million per. |
