I don't like throwing Crede into the mix but Santana is already better than Freddy. In addition he is young, inexpensive and cannot go to free agency for several years. Chone Figgins is the love child Pods and Willie Harris. And Gload is an excellent bat off the bench as well as a good backup to Konerko. |

And Gload is an excellent bat off the bench as well as a good backup to Konerko. Don't like this trade at all, please god, let this be just a rumor. Isn't Chone a more versitile Podsednik ? Santana is a nice pitcher, but wasn't he horrible outside of his home park ? I wouldn't have a problem with a straight up trade, but what happened to Kenny being able to hold teams hostage as free agency has gotten ridiculous $$$$ ? Joe Crede, back problems and all, should be our 3B for another season. |

That's a no-brainer. Remember guys, facing Johan Santana last year usually meant an automatic loss for the Sox. I'll gladly take him in a black and white uniform - even if it means Crede goes. I love Crede too, but either we get something for him now, or he walks later. Either way, his days in Chicago are numbered. |

Settle down boys. It's Erwin Santana - the 23 year old Angel's version of Pedro. Offense wise Figgins & Pods are almost identical. Same OBP, same BA. Figgins is 2 years younger, is a much better defensive outfielder and has a better steal %. As for his versatility, last year at 3B he looked like Mackowiak In CF - 10E & fielding % below .900. Santana was good b4 the all star game and looked like he tired out. He is only 23 while Freddy is 30. Their stats were very similar, but Santana has Tremendous Upside Potential (Sorry for the Hubie Brown). It's tough to evaluate this trade without Pods side of the equation. What can Kenny get for him on the trade market - and I hope to God the Sox don't keep both Pods(LF) & Figgins (3B) |

I'd make the Angel trade in a heart beat. But yeah I'd still look around for something better. I'm sure Kenny is but the Angel trade would also free up money to spend this year. Garcia makes 9 million and I'm quite sure that Santana doesn't pull that just yet. |

Thanks for clarifying, Rob. I'd still take him over sweaty Freddy though. Freddy didn't get back on track until September after the Sox had already practically eliminated themselves. On the other hand, Figgins for Crede? No. I still think Crede should be dealt, but this ain't the way to do it. |

If you're talking the Yanks, they love Santana too, but other than A-rod who's not moving, what do they have to trade? The Mets look like they will get Zito, and don't want to give up Milledge. I like the Angels trade cause it gives Kenny more pieces to move. Santana can be flipped in another trade or frees up Buehrle or Vasquez, and Figgins frees up Pods. |

Nope, but I think there is something missing from this puzzle. I imagine KW is also looking for a reliever. If that reliever is Scott Shields, well the Angels have themselves a deal in my opinion. |

This is the time to launch Freddy. He's eating himself out of the league and he's a free agent next year. Now he can have a 12-12 year and somebody will offer him 12 million per for 3 years. That's the market. But the Sox wouldn't have so they need to get rid of him. This is also the time to deal Crede. Yes, we control him for 2 years. But he refused to get back surgery this year and it's going to go out on him this season. Plus that might have been a career year for him offensivly last year. Maybe not but it's time to trade him. Like Dolphin says teams like the fact that they have him for 2 years before they have to commit big bucks. |

Dolphin, I don't think the hold up is on the Sox side, it's the Angels valuation of Santana. His power arm makes him a more desirable commodity than Zito, and young age gives him the edge over Schmidt, and they know it. And now with ManRam on the market (again), Santana can be a key piece of a trade that brings him to the Angels. |

Chone Figgins is a nice player - but is he our answer to replace Pods in LF, and Fields at 3B ? Offense would be all or nothing again next season. |

What do you want from them though? Santana is pretty good |
