Sox re-sign Pods for '07 By Dave van Dyck Tribune staff reporter Disdaining the high-priced free agent market, the White Sox re-signed left fielder Scott Podsednik to a one year, $2.9 million contract. What to do with the leadoff hitter, whose statistics fell off this summer from the 2005 championship season, was one of the main priorities of early winter. The Sox could have declined to offer him arbitration and made him a free agent. White Sox GM Kenny Williams had scoured the free agent lists but became discouraged at the price. He instead brought back Podsednik, who is expected again to lead off, although he could have competition from rookie Jerry Owens. Podsednik hit .261 and had a .330 on-base percentage while stealing 40 bases. He was caught stealing 19 times. |

At least the price was right compared to Pierre. Pods has that Saberhagen & Glavine thing going where he's good odd years, bad even years. He's do for a good one in '07. |

I'm willing to give him another chance. |

4th outfielder is a key position this season. You need someone who may have to take either Anderson or Podsednik's place. |

Will Ross Gload be given some time in LF next season ? He does deserve more atbats - I'd like to give Thome at least one off day per week as he was not the same player in the 2nd half last season with the wrist and back injuries. I like Pods coming back as well - last year, not good, but Sweeney/Fields could be breathing down his back for playing time should Pods struggle early in the season. |

At $2.9 mil this may actually give Tippy Toe some trade value. I'm still hoping someone else will be patroling LF on the South Side next season. |

Enough of Chone talk. Take a look at the numbers. He is Podsednik. Anyone who would trade Garcia straight up for Figgins should have his head examined and then removed, and not necessarily in that order. |

I'm with GD. Figgins is really nothing more than another version of Scotty Pods, except a little more... cooked? Trading Garcia (hell, trading Thorton) straight-up for this guy is a complete injustice. |
