Tito Landrum's 10th inning home run in the upper tank at Comiskey happened 30 years ago today. Jerry Dybzinski's base running blunder cost them in the 7th because Britt Burns was brilliant and would have won that fucker 1-0. But LaRussa let him pitch the tenth. Thanks Tony! Thanks Tito!

That was my all time favorite Sox team. Rudy, pudge, Harold, The Bull, Wimpy, Spanky, Britt, Juice, Hoyt, Floyd the Barber, Dotson (3 twenty game winners I think). 2005 would have been meaningless if Tito were never born.

My all-time favorite White Sox teams were during the Rollie Hemond/Chuck Tanner era:
Around 1971-74
INF:Dick Allen,Mike Andrews,Be-Be Richards,Bill Melton/Ed Spezio,Ed Hermann
OF: Rick Reichardt,Carlos May,Jay Johnstone,No Neck Williams
Pitching: Wilbur Wood,Tom Bradley,Terry Forster,Goose Gossage.

That was all from memory. I'm sure I'm leaving some guys out.

They always battled the A's tough.

That was a fun team.

Rudy Law at the top of the order stealing 70+ bases that year.

Kittle winning ROY and hitting 35 bombs.

Pudge was top 3 for MVP that year. Hoyt won Cy Young.

Saturday will be the 20 year anniversary of the White Sox losing to the Blue Jays in the ALCS. I don't remember the 1983 team. I was 3.

That series was ended with one swing of Eddie Murray's bat. You just knew the Orioles weren't going to lose. Kittle roof shots notwithstanding, that Murray blast was the most shocking shot I saw that year.

And yeah, '93 was known for game 1 & the broadcast focus on the then "rumor" that Jordan was retiring. That whole series was like a funeral. Especially after Bere & Alvarez were pushed to supporting roles to the fading Fernandez & McDowell.

Yeah, it was. Dave Stewart pretty much silenced every single White Sox bat.

That series did feature the first player ever in MLB history to have zero HRs during the regular season, and then go yard in the postseason. Good ol' One Dog

Pods is the only other guy to accomplish that, obviously also with the Sox.

It was. It was the specter of death surrounding Jordan and his father's murder. There was the sad reality that Jordan would be retiring. It was also fucking abnormally cold, so Comiskey was just quiet and dead for every game that series. It was depressing to watch on TV. Coldest October I can recall, actually. There was snow before Halloween in 1993.

But that was the first Sox team I was emotionally invested in. I mean, I watched the Sox previously, but I didn't really care. But that '93 team pulled me in and I was along for the ride the whole way.

You mean you didn't write that '93 club off in Spring Training?

That '94 club was, IMHO, even better. Them and Cleveland were the best teams in the AL and I think the Sox would have beated them or the Yanks if there was an ALCS in 1994.

I don't know about better, but I remain convinced that Cleveland was quickly going to overtake the Sox. By the time of the shutdown, the Indians were a much better team. But then again, given that the feeling/fact that Reinsdorf was the chief architect of the lockout, morale & chemistry within the Sox clubhouse was understandably about zero.

Raines and Frank were giant against the Blue Jays and Burks was real good. Nobody else hit though. I just remember they kept walking Frank.

It seems like it's become conventional wisdom in Chicago that the '94 World Series was fait acccompli for the Sox. They were a game in front of Cleveland and the Yankees were playing .620 baseball. It's nearly as silly as crediting Jordan with 8 titles in a row which I've heard more than a few people do.

Hoyt was ready for game five. At home. But who ever made the comment about Eddie Murray was right. They crushed Rich Dotson in game three. Murray hit one so far no one cared that he stood there and watched.

They lost every home game in 93 playoffs. That was sickening.

They lost both home games to the Mariners before sweep in 2000. I was at game two and spilled Nacho Cheese on my new Levis. That day sucked.

Game one in 2005 against the Redsox isnt talked about much because of Pods and Konerko but they crushed Boston at home for their first playoff home win since the Jurassic period. Pods homered and so did weak hitting playoff bust Juan Uribe.

I was happy to see a home playoff win. I had no idea they would finish the playoffs 11-1. That team is never mentioned as a dominating team. I think its the best playoff run ever. They were also the best team in baseball from start to finish. They were the first to win 10, 20, 30, 40., 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 wins finishing with the best record in Baseball.

I think our all time favorite teams are the ones from our childhood. It seemed to matter a lot more then. Southside Hitmen from 77 was my second favorite team. I loved me some Oscar Gamble and Richie Zisk.

I says have a soft spot for hit men as well as 83 what a summer. Even though loved the series 05 I would say my fave sox team was 93.
