Back with the team that is. The numbers say you cant trade him. Should he play every day? Where will he bat? I know Ventura will play him every day but he should not bat higher than 6th or 7th. I would platoon Konerko and Dunn at DH. One more year of this disaster.

Sox'll sign him to a 7 yr. contract to put themselves back in the news.

It's about that time of year for the "Dunn is fit, working the cage, and feeling better than ever" article.

Maybe he'll shorten his stroke and strike out less than 200 times. Gotta root for something. His Home Runs wont go 500 ft but just 400 ft.

Nah, you usually get that in late Feb. You know, just a few days before the first spring game, the day he hits 2 HRs in an intrasquad game off a Hispanic relief pitcher with a uniform number in the 90's

I'm all for giving the fat fuck less at bats but I'm a little worried about Pauly in a platoon situation. He's such a feel hitter I'm not sure he can find his swing only playing 2-3 times a week.

When Pauly is playing I'd like to see him at first base. Dunn is worthless over there and though Pauly has no range he's still a magician at picking balls out of the dirt and that will come in handy with a rookie at third and Alexei at short.

Huh? Did you forget about the guy they just paid a ton of money to play first almost everyday?

Konerko will DH against lefties, and Dunn against most right handed pitchers. Abreu will get most of the time at 1B assuming he shows he's able to hit MLB pitching. They will probably rest him and pick some spots to sit him against certain pitchers, giving Dunn or Konerko an occasional start at 1B. If all goes as planned, I would expect Abreu to start about 120 games, Dunn will get around 120 starts and Konerko filling in the rest.

120 games for Abreu sounds about right. In the games Pauly plays I don't want him DHing I want him at 1B. It will help him to get out of the dugout in the games he plays and the infielders will be happy when he's over there.

This thread is not official without an ASFB "oaf" comment.

Dunn nearly did it. His stink almost helped the A's miss the playoffs. But they made it and his playoff cherry is popped.

I'm sure most people who read this board know that my favorite baseball argument is that a pitcher's W/L record is far from "meaningless" in spite of the consistent drumbeat to the contrary by certain writers and a whole lot of fans. How does that relate to Adam Dunn? Well, it's about the way people view the game. And the fashionable ways to judge players.

And if you really break it down, it all comes down to the walk. Getting on base has become the value that trumps all others. And accordingly, keeping runners off base has become the celebrated value for pitchers. The actual results of the games he pitches be damned.

I'm sure if I were to attempt to make a case for the greatness of Adam Dunn I would be ridiculed. But the fact is his adjusted OPS+ is better than that of a bunch of guys in the Hall of Fame. He has been 24% better than the average hitter in the leagues he has played in throughout his big league career. Ernie Banks was only 22% better. Andre Dawson was 19% better.

When we look at how people prefer to judge pitchers rather than looking at their "meaningless" W/L records, it is usually some statistic or combination of statistics that measures how well they succeeded in preventing men from reaching base. Basically, if you think Jeff Samardzija is a good pitcher, you have to think Adam Dunn was a near great hitter. Either that, or you're just full of shit.
