My 70 year old dad, a lifelong diehard Sox fan, is attending Sox fantasy camp this week. Pretty sure he's the oldest camper. He played semi pro ball about 50 years ago. Had a heart attack a few years back which was a blessing in disguise because they found 2 clogged arteries which they opened up. Since then he has lost a lot of weight, eats very healthy and works out a few times a week. He's been going to the baseball dome to practice all winter since he hasn't played in 50 years. Been getting some updates, he's having the time of his life. His uniform is from the Sox of the late 40s I believe, really cool looking. He started out slow, injuring his calf and groin within the first 15 minutes of camp. Saw the trainer, got it wrapped and played in the first game where he went 0-2 vs Richard Dotson and his team lost 4-3. Game two was against Aaron Rowand's team. In his second at bat vs Rowand he hit a line drive RBI single. Of course he reinjured his calf running to 1st so his coach, Darryl Boston, pulled him for a pinch runner. His other coach is Donn Paul who ran and grabbed the ball and saved it as a souvenaire of his first fantasy camp hit. His team won that game 7-4. Later that night Rowand was sitting around with some guys talking about the line drive my dad hit and couldn't remember his name, but remembered it started with an O so he started calling him Ovechkin. After that it got shortened to OV which is what everyone in camp is calling my dad now. Yesterday he went 3-3 with 3 RBIs vs Bobby Thigpen and then went 1-2 vs Joe McEwing in the afternoon game. He also made 3 trips to the training room for treatment. Below is a video of one of his hits yesterday, you can hear his teammates in the background cheering OV on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-OAkqgv21g&feature=youtu.be |

In theory, baseball can be a fun game to play. |

Good for him. I hope at 70 I can both do whatever I want and also work. |

Jose Contreras pitched in the big leagues at that age. Nice brag, Shakes. |
