Kenny is jumping on the Arrieta, Strop and Wada bandwagon.

Beckham and De Aza combined save the Sox $10m. Man, getting rid of Dunner would be cooooool.

May not have to worry. I think the Oaf is considering officially retiring after this year.

That won't save us the remaining money on his contract (which runs up at the end of this season).

I had no idea this was his last year on that deal. Will the Chairman pocket that money? 14 mil a year is a pretty good chunk of change.

Not really 10 mil

Beckham 1 year/$4.175M
DeAza 1 year/$4.25M

the season is 5 months old so the Sox have saved about 1.4 mil for the last month

From Baseball America:

Miguel Chalas, rhp
Age: 22

Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2010, Chalas reached Triple-A for his past two appearances, which could have been a showcase for the righthander, who had not pitched above high Class A in four years in the organization prior to that. Chalas throws a four-seam fastball from 90-93 with a maximum effort, a fringe breaking ball described as a slurve that acts like a cutter and change that flashes average. He’s pitched in relief the past two seasons after starting the first two in the organization and pitches largely to contact, averaging fewer than seven strikeouts per nine.

Norfolk (IL) AAA 1 1 1.29 2 7 2 1 1 1 6 5
Mark Blackmar, rhp
Age: 22

The son of PGA senior golfer Phil Blackmar, Mark is an athletic 6-foot-3, 215-pound righthander with a three-pitch mix. His cutter/slider is his best pitch, and he also fills the strike zone with a lively 87-91 mph fastball and a developing changeup. He sliced his walks this season to 2.21/9, but, like Chalas, does not rely on the strikeout, whiffing just 5.30/9 in his minor league career.

releasing the guy would've been a "great deal." getting anything in return is a miracle.

Nah. I'm going to let you figure this one out all by yourself.

So he jumped from High Class A to AAA in one move waiting for someone to come in and be the "smarter than everyone else"

The key is we got something for De Aza instead of having to choose between offering Arb or non tendering him this offseason. I doubt either of these guys amount to anything, but there's a minute chance they will and it's worth giving up De Aza to find out.

The fella we got for Dunn is a lot more useful.

The fact that Hahn got something more than a sack of sliders for Dunn is somewhat miraculous.

For reference, two of the A ballers we got thrown into the Peavy trade are Cleuluis Rondon and Frank Montas, both of whom have taken big steps this year. I wouldn't be shocked if we get more out of them than we do out of Avisail Garcia.
