You might be surprised to learn that I don't watch many Sox games. I do follow box scores, though. Oh, I love box scores...ever since I was a kid getting The Sporting News.

So, I've been watching the guy hit near .400 since June but what's with the power outage? This is not a rip. The guy is obviously a great hitter.

I'm just curious to hear if Sox fans have any theories on why his average is skyrocketing but the power decreasing. Is he shortening up his swing to make more contact? I'm honestly curious.

Was due to his participation in the Hr derby, where he was injured.

Injured. That's a good theory.

So, what's wrong. He's obviously still playing everyday and hitting .380.

Frank Thomas predicted almost exactly how Abreu's power would decrease based upon his own experience. If you look at a lot of big homer seasons (especially outside the steroid era) they were front loaded.

Hahn told him to tank it so the Sox could have a better draft pick

Frank will laugh but those "barely" home runs have turned into doubles. A long season does that.

Of course the Dr. Coztanza astro physicist will offer his compelling rebuttal.

Did Frank predict which large 3/4 arm slot righty would have Abreu bailing out like he was on the Titanic like Jeff Nelson did to him?

He would have 50 HRs if the Sox were playing in Vegas.

The thing is that I don't think he is hitting it as far. That isn't really what the "barely" home run stat is saying. It is saying that if he hits it as far in other ballparks it won't be a home run, but that is still pretty dumb since that normally stays pretty consistent throughout the year.

He's either changing his approach or he is injured. I doubt he is just now getting unlucky in where he hits it that far.

Frank may have had trouble with Nelson but he made up for it vs. Mussina.

And that's part of it too.

He hasn't been scheduled for 150 games before.

Thing is, its harder to get your avg from .280 at the AS break to the .320 its at now than it his to hit 15-20 HRs in that same stretch.

Yeah. How can a guy that plays 120-130+ games, has 400+ at bats, and is involved in more put outs than anybody else (except pitcher and catcher) on the field get tired?
