not just for the Sox but these fanfests all suck

I went once on a free ticket. I don't think I'd accept even that free ticket again. It seem pointless and you get to be packed into rooms with the stephs of the world.

They're really just glorified autograph shows.

My son really wants to go to the Blackhawks one.

Went to the Bears one years ago, would never go back to any such event again, even if I was paid.

It is good for kids, just be prepared to basically spend the day in REALLY long lines for signatures.

Sister took my nephew to Cubs convention 3 years ago, he loved it.

Went to a meet the team event for the STH for the hawks in the late 90's. The team that had Amonte, Mironov, Thibault, etc.
The whole team was there signing autographs, free hot dogs, nachos, etc.

Three players per table, spread out around the 200 level of the concourse. Not one table had a line. You could walk right up to any player and get them to sign anything you wanted, take pics, talk, etc. The players were almost begging for somebody to come up to them.

Times have changed just a little bit.

When we shared season tickets my Dad, my Brother and I went a couple times. We didn't go to any of the sessions as it was just an excuse to spend the night in Chicago. The bar at the hotel is fun though. Richard Dotson can really throw them back.

A little off topic, but your post reminded me of this. A friend of mine had a big job with Ford Credit. One of his dealers, the guy in Melrose Park, I can't remember what it was called back then, had a big tent sale. My buddy was gonna be on hand to sign off on any deals immediately. They had hot dogs, popcorn, games for kids, all kinds of shit.

The dealer has made a deal with one of the Blackhawks to come sign autographs during the sale and in exchange he would give the guy a car to use. I'm almost positive it was Christian Ruuttu, but I'll add the almost as a disclaimer since I don't want to slander the guy if my memory is wrong. Anyway, the player came in and said, "Where is my car?" The porter brought it up and he jumped in and drove away without signing a single autograph.

STH events are a different story.

The Bears used to be incredibly low end with their STH events...like, a ticket for one hot dog and one non alcoholic beverage to PSL holders. They have really stepped up their game with small events at Halas Hall throughout the year. It is like an entirely different experience.

The fests suck. Nerds with jerseys tucked into their jeans and sweaty adult autograph seekers.

The look on a grown man's face when an athlete is in the process of autographing something for him is just an uncomfortable sight. Youre supposed to grow out of that shit.

The Q&A with the front office seems staged with how stupid the questions are. That should be the one redeeming quality of the whole mess.

Spring Training > Soxfest. By far, spring training is a lot of fun to attend even for a couple of days

I'm as big of Sox fan as anyone, and I've never been to SoxFest, and have no interest in going.

Unless you're taking your kids, or it's a good place to buy memorabilia for a mancave, I don't get the appeal for adults.

On the other hand, I'm glad it exists because it forces the media to give the Sox some attention before spring training.
