Bernstein is right. They need to find a kind way to tell him "YOUR BRODCASTING CAREER IS OVAH". That this is your last season. So take your bows.

Because I don't think he's ever gonna retire.

Brooks Boyer need to talk to Jerry and convince him. But Brooks is scared to do it cuz Jerry wouldn't want to hear it. And if he approached Jerry with it, Brooks might think that he would get fired.

Our guy needs to be ovah and Harry that incoherent drunk could stay until death got it. Stay out of Sox business.

Hawk is perfect for the Sox fan base.

He might live to be 90. He's not gonna retire if he's mobile. Like Harry.

I guess Jerry is thinking: "I'm older than Hawk, I'm not gonna fire him. I'll let my son do it when I'm gone." Or the new owner cuz I think Jerry has said to his son "Keep the Bulls, sell the Sox."

Speaking of old guys,I saw today on TV that the great Dick Enberg does Padre games. I wondered what happened to him. He is one of my all-time favorite announcers.

Bobby Hull....minus the rug!

You're right about Enberg, Jimmy. Whenever I hear Lundquist doing games, I think of guys like Enberg, Summerall, Keith Jackson, Harry and Jimmy, Buck....hell, Double D and Hawk were good. Now it's a bunch of vanilla guys with no personality.

And Hawk will leave on his own terms.

Yup.

Though, I'd be happy with him doing a more limited schedule too.

I watched the Reds and Rangers last night and I don't know who was handling that game, but I kept thinking, is this really what the people who complain about Hawk want?

isn't the rangers where josh lewin ended up? i remember hearing his name around town years ago but we got rockstar kermit and life goes on.

you're damn right with the you're damn right picture up there. i like hawk for all the reasons than dan bernstein outlined with the added bonus that knowing each word out of his mouth pisses off bernstein; that's priceless in my world.

also you have to wonder given today's b&b show and its place in the chi sports landscape if jerry wants out of hawk's contract so he's sent dan to drum up public support to try and piss off hawk and get him to leave, cuz hawk strikes me as the type of guy who could eventually snap and go "fuck you" and walk out, but then again i also have a little faith in hawk in that he knows he's been trolling the shit out of 95% of chicago for a long time and he loves being the bad guy.

There is nothing more entertaining to this Cubs fan than hearing Hawk meltdown or maybe not hearing him say anything. I especially love his frustration with the strike zone.

This.

For all of his faults, Hawk is one of the last true characters of the game and he will be sorely missed when he is gone. Thought I will say that the few games a years Wimpy fills in for Stone, Hawk is much better.

I would love to here Hawk & Brenly call a game.

Hawk sucks and he is really bad for a guy who comparatively is not that old. He is 73. I would have thought he was 80+

I agree 100% with both of you! Theo would never had put up with Brenly's brutal honesty the past 3 miserable Cub seasons.

It's nice to listen to a guy like Hawk (and Stone, too) who have a sense of Baseball history.

The biggest difference to me between Brenly and Hawk's criticisms are their targets. Hawk is never critical of Sox players. It's always the umps' fault. Brenly was openly critical of Cubs players (Soriano comes to mind and rightfully so).

I don't think Hawk and Wimpy get their due. At their peak, they were as good as it gets from a local tandem.

This weekend, Uncle Verne described a reach in foul as a reach-around.

Hawk is bad. His position that the umps "make up" calls to go against the Sox is childish and plays to the lowest common denominator of a fan. That said, I do get some enjoyment from him when the Sox are losing. I will miss him in the regard only.

Hawk bitches about umps, but he will absolutely be critical of the Sox when called for. He will say "we giftwrapped that game" or "X number of runs" multiple times a season. Of course Cubs fans won't understand that though.

Love / hate with Hawk.

I agree that he is 73 going on 90 years old.
I agree he and wimpy were a great duo.
I agree that he's one of the few remaining characters left.

Hawk has become a caricature of himself. I love his ridiculous sayings and I love his dead silence when something goes poorly. I love his umpire rants...but...all of these have become overdone and a little tiresome.

That being said, I'll take it, as next up will be some bland, vanilla ass licker.

Classcic Hawk today in the first 20 minutes of today's spring broadcast. One great story, and one totally crazy comment.

Bo Jackson was in the booth for the 1st inning, so Hawk starts telling a story about Bo on a road trip.
(paraphrasing) " I took my son Casey on a road trip, back when Bo was with our club. I think we were going from Toronto to Baltimore. So we get up in the air, and Bo comes up the aisle and says to Casey, "Come on, come sit in the back with me." So Casey goes back, and later as we're getting ready to land, Casey comes back up to sit with me. He turns to me and says, "Dad....Bo knows Super Mario Brothers" "

Then in the top half of the next inning Hawk said Bo had a 1-iron in his golf bag, and he was so strong he could carry it 300-320 yards. Some pros can't even carry their driver that far. For the non golfers, 'carry' means distance in the air. Pros regularly hit driver over 300 yards, but that is after lots of roll.
