He's signed to a very team friendly deal until 2019. So the Sox have him under control for 4 more years. His highest salary is slated to be $13.5M in his last year in 2019 (however he has an escalator based on Cy Young finishes that could bump to $16M). He's arguably the most valuable player in baseball when you combine the scarcity of elite pitching, ace compensation, and his track record. Though, that is why you can't trade him. You will never receive fair value in return. |

No. You have 2 faces of the franchise...Sale and Abreu. Regardless of how bad your team is, you have to sell jerseys...those 2 are the ones that will sell. |
