Post subject:  LUCKY and JUST ENOUGH HR's

I brought up the issue of the low and very close HRs at Comiskular and maybe some of those HR's wouldn't be HRs in most ball parks,

Specifically after Adam Eaton poked a line drive oppo HR that he reached for an almost threw the bat at it .

The usuals defended the Sox and The cell.

Well ESPN's HR tracker has some interesting info.

Lucky Homers - A home run that would not have cleared the fence if it has been struck on a 70-degree, calm day

Howard, Ryan 5
Martinez, J.D. 4
Crawford, Brandon 4
Abreu, Jose 4
Cruz, Nelson 4

"Just Enough" home run - Means the ball cleared the fence by less than 10 vertical feet, OR that it landed less than one fence height past the fence. These are the ones that barely made it over the fence.
Martinez, J.D. 15
Trout, Mike 13
Votto, Joey 13
Abreu, Jose 12
Upton, Justin 11

"No Doubt" home run - Means the ball cleared the fence by at least 20 vertical feet AND landed at least 50 feet past the fence. These are the really deep blasts.

Encarnacion, Edwin 13
Davis, Chris 12
Donaldson, Josh 12
Bautista, Jose 11
Gonzalez, Carlos 11
Cruz, Nelson 10
Pujols, Albert 10
Stanton, Giancarlo 10
Rizzo, Anthony 9
Abreu 2

You know, in 2005 us "usuals" completely ignored the Cubbies and their fanboys. But I guess ye are of little faith.

Abreu hit one to dead center last nite that was further than every Cub homer this year. Combined. #Cubanplan. #3rdplaceisntallitscrackeduptobe

line drives usually don't go that far.

Big Fan, it has become customary on these new fangled interwebs to provide a short summary for long posts. I will help you out by providing one here:

TL; DR "short" line drive homers at the Cell are lucky, windblown homers at Wrigley are not.

The Plan worked like a charm.

3rd place in the division and no World Series rings.

Things are so good that Cub's fans have taken to denigrating the best hitter in Chicago.

I debunked this many times last year, and I guess I'll have to do it again to show Cubs fans how foolish they look at times.

Of Abreu's career homers, 35 have come on the road, 26 at home.

You should consider providing some stats to backup what you see, I never see you talking about stats.

It started there, and ran through a bunch of threads throughout 2014 and 2015. Pretty much any Abreu or Rizzo thread.

Bryant showing Abreu how it's done. That's a bomb.

Would have been a flyout on a 70 degree calm day.

As baseball fans, can't we set aside our trolling to appreciate how beautiful that was. It was crushed.

That's one of the fun moments that's unique to baseball.

Now, carry on.

Cicero Dave could probably do that.
Not Frank.

Nope. Flyout on a 70 degree day.

That argument is such a crock shit anyway. There are balls hit (by Cubs and Sox) in April or may when it's 50 degrees out that are crushed, but don't leave the ballpark. But of course, Cubs fans never mention that when trying to discount the awesomeness of Abreu.

I have no opinion on Abreu.

I've never seen him play.

You're missing the best pure hitter playing in Chicago right now. ;)

I will actually agree that I have seen more basket HRs in wrigley, than in a long time.

maybe it is a function of more HRS than usual, but the basket shots have been numerous.
