IMO, Tim Anderson, and I think that is a terrible trade.

From The SF Chronicle this morning:

NASHVILLE - Once the A’s reacquired Jed Lowrie last week, it was obvious Oakland would move Brett Lawrie.

And late Tuesday night, The Chronicle learned that Oakland was nearing a deal with Chicago that would send the infielder to the White Sox in exchange for two minor-leaguers. According to two sources, the teams were still unsettled on the minor-league portion of the deal.

I would skip this and just let some minor leaguer play. His stats and games played yawn.

I don't have a problem acquiring Lawrie as long as the price paid isn't exorbinant. It's a lot more realistic than last year's inexplicable contentment over Conor Gillaspie.

There it is....any bargain guy would be OK. (Expected America answer)

Going to say 4 years, Lawrie was one of the hottest names in baseball. Maybe a GM survey that had him at the top of a list of who they would want to start building a franchise right now. Its the only reason I checked up on him a few times over the years. 1st round pick guy 2008, still young.

If I am a GM REBUILDING, I would go and get a ton of guys like this. You can trade them or keep them after you bought low and have something if it works out.

But if you dont want to admit you are rebuilding then, you are taking a risk and if he sucks, the GM/PRES/VP take blame for finding a player that cant play and they should be fired for that if it happens too much,

So, it goes back to the simple question. Which year is this in the "3 year plan"?

I agree that the Sox should be targeting players like Lawrie. If the lineup can just be average across the board with Abreu, Eaton and maybe somebody stepping up they'll be in great shape with their staff. It took a historic level of bad last year to make the Sox as bad as they were, mainly because they had waiver pickups starting Opening Day.

Sox are apparently on hold with the A's. Probably out. Theyre looking at Frazier (god help us).

Lawrie to the White Sox is done....RHP J.B. Wendelken and LHP Zack Erwin sent to Oakland.

Post subject:  Re: Lawrie to Sox

Wendelken is a piece of the old Peavy trade, he's not terrible.

But still that's awfully cheap for a chance to see if Lawrie puts it all together.

Doesnt make it a good deal...lol

Its a rebuilding deal! lets all say it again REBUILDING

something for nothing is by definition a good deal. they have holes at 6 positions, so filling one with a league average player isn't a terrible way to start.

Better than what they were otherwise going to war with. I think some people liked the first pitcher I'm comfortable with what they gave up

Agreed. They are also better on paper going into 2016 season than they were last season (Keeping in mind that most viewed the team positively going into 2015). I don't have a problem with the moves so far. Baseball is a strange game. If a couple of guys play to their historical stats they will be fine. If they are all Adam Dunn then it will be another brutal year.

Still want another infielder on a stopgap deal and another OF that's maybe a little more long term. No world beaters, just a couple more guys like Lawrie.
