File this under late-night White Sox ideas that may or may not make sense:

Alexei Ramirez, Jose Abreu, Yasiel Puig, Brayan Pena as well as league and union officials just traveled to Cuba and it was a big deal. It's a "goodwill mission" on behalf of baseball for a country that doesn't need it. It's far more Cuba's national game than it is the United States'. Spring Training games are coming to Cuba as well as probably a regular season series in 2017.

The Sox should play their first two homestands in Havana every year. Nobody shows up in April because it's miserable in Chicago, the fans don't lIke it, the players don't like it and the league doesn't like it. So why not just do away with it?

Every game in Havana will sell out immediately, there is no doubt about that. The games will draw TV viewers amongst the Cuban diaspora and in Cuba itself. The Sox will establish themselves as Cuba's MLB team, giving them millions of fans overnight. The Sox can wear 'Havana White Sox' uniforms during their residency there, and those will sell like crazy for their novelty. Then sometime in May there's a homecoming weekend in Chicago when the weather is better, if done right that's 3 sellouts right off the bat.

There are a lot of kinks to work out. The state of Illinois will be upset they aren't getting their cut from the Sox for the first 15-20 games, workers at the Cell will have their earnings cut and English speaking players will have to find accommodations. But it would turn a the April attendance problems into a boon for the franchise.

You didn't come up with this idea my big friend. You just want to move then to a multi use indoor facility near a rest stop in western Nebraska. Sox will still play the vast majority of games in front of fans in Chicago, they just stake a claim in one of the most baseball obsessed countries in the world.

Sox are too stupid to capitalize on what should be an obvious connection to the Cuban-American community.

Havana has a 55,000 seat baseball stadium. They'd outdraw the Sox easily.

America...LOooong before your existance here, I dropped the idea. More realistcally, Mexico was a thought. Build a 100,000 seat facility with a HUGE WALL ( :D ), the OF would be a mountain or hill with all bleachers, $1 peso seats. Kinda like Chavez....My guy Pedro agrees. (soccer on the off days)

Gained by bringing the best baseball played on earth to people who want to see it. It's not like the Sox would be starting their own cable channel and defiling a Chicago landmark to strap more corporate ads over.

It was surprising to me how bad the finances where when the Expos played a couple of series in Puerto Rico each year. For the White Sox to be successful financially in Cuba, it wouldn't be just filling up the stadium with tickets the locals could afford, it would be providing an opportunity for the multinationals to purchase blocks of high-quality seats at inflated prices for government officials needing to be bribed.

Chavez Ravine packs the bleachers for most games.
