The client was this goof named Michael Saigh. His uncle had owned the Cardinals and he had a trust fund. I think he had to request money from it though, so it's not like he was walking around loaded. But he had this noblesse oblige. I mean, his sport coat looked like something a homeless guy would wear but he was still cocky. His partner was a professor at SIU named Pierre Barrette. Another real goof. That blustering windbag should have stayed locked up in his ivory tower.
Saigh was a brilliant guy who invented a lot of shit. Right now I think he has a project involving securities backed by rare art. But he was just impossible to work with. He had no respect for the money guys. Money guys don't really like that.
Anyway, we had this lunch meeting at the hotel and the check came and I was reaching for my cash. My partner looked at me and waved and said, "No, the client always picks up the check." And he got up and started walking out. Those two douchebags had steam coming out of their ears. I'm not sure they had five bucks between them. They may still be sitting there.
